On April 22, Obama now leading by 164 pledged delegates and with only 217 pledged delegates left to be decided in the remaining contests, many pundits declared that the primary was effectively over.

On May 10, Obama's superdelegate total surpassed Clinton's for the first time in the race, making the math increasingly difficult for a Clinton win.

Obama was able to clear a victory in Oregon on May 20, which allowed him to clinch the majority of pledged delegates. Obama gave a speech in Des Moines, Iowa, the state that propelled his candidacy, in which he stated, "You have put us within reach of the Democratic nomination for president of the United States of America.

However, even under the most favorable seating arrangement, she would not have been able to take a lead in pledged delegates and would have had to rely on superdelegates to win the nomination.

Obama remained significantly ahead, with a lead of 137 pledged delegates before the Puerto Rico primary on June 1.

On June 3, the day of the final primaries in South Dakota and Montana, Obama rolled out about sixty superdelegate endorsements. Those endorsements, together with the pledged delegates awarded in the final primaries, put him well over the "magic number" of 2,117 delegate votes necessary for a majority at the Democratic National Convention.

This all sounds familiar, and even more close than now. Hillary stayed in until the last day although it had been over. I expect Bernie to concede as well this week or after D.C. NOT AT THE CONVENTION

I just don't see Bernie conceding peacefully at this time. I have a feeling he's going to scream "The establishment got what they wanted11!1!!" and is going to try and force his agenda on hillary before endorsing her.

I lowkey wish Hillary had stayed in the Senate and just chaired the Foreign Affairs Committee because she wouldn't have had Benghazi and the emails on her ass and she probably would have been a billion times more popular than she is now tbh

Hmm. She had high favorable numbers among both Republicans and Democrats when she left, and being Secretary of State under not only a president, but the first black president, after they just finished a close, brutal and historic primary on both ends will look good in the history books.

Republicans only make it an issue because she's running for president.

Her favorability was high until she announced her candidacy last year. Staying in the Senate would not have changed that. It's been observed that Hillary's unfavorability always plummets when she's going for a promotion.

I mean for people like us who really follow the election knows about it. I'm sure most of both sides knows the stakes so turnout will stay the same in that department.

But I honestly don't think the news has spread that much to average voters that it will do anything. For example. CNN didn't break the news to what 10PM? I'm sure people were either sleep or wasn't watching it to notice. If anything, 10K voters were lost after tonight. I mean on the GOP side, everyone dropped out and Trump was called and he still has people turning out weeks later.
