No, she's not the official nominee until the convention. Even if Bernie dropped out, that would be the case. As long as Bernie is in the race (especially with the FBI investigation over her emails still going on), it's not going to help party unity for Obama to campaign for her at this point. It will radicalize Bernie's supporters and make them think the establishment is out to get Bernie even further.

I understand the idea that Obama shouldn't risk angering Bernie's anti-establishment supporters but it's not the job of our political leaders to coddle them either. They need to wake up to the fact that it's time to begin seriously considering the nominated candidate our country needs.

I whole-heartedly agree. It's time to coalesce around the nominee. I don't see any problem in President Obama ending this thing once and for all.

I understand not feeling the need to coddle Bernie supporters, but I also think jumping instantly into endorsing Hillary is wise. I'd give Bernie some time to rethink the direction of the GE after tomorrow and then if he's still campaigning for a contested convention a week from then, then I would feel it's okay for Obama to openly endorse Hillary.

Also, the FBI needs to ****ing finish their investigation and clear her already.

Speaking of the FBI investigation, it's still funny to see people claim the government is out to get Bernie to benefit Hillary.

If strings were actually being pulled behind the scenes to help Hillary, she wouldn't have been placed under investigation in the first place.

It's not so much to placate them as it is treating them with respect. Bernie himself hasn't dropped out yet so until that becomes apparent or looks likely Obama should hold off. Otherwise Bernie could come and say "look this was rigged from the start" and it would cause a rift in the party that could be dangerous

Also there's a minute chance (highly unlikely but still technically possible) that the FBI indicts her. Imagine the sitting president endorsing an indicted nominee. Not only would her nominee status be in danger but Obama wouldn't be able to endorse Bernie at that point

But as Orpheus said it's moot to talk about because Obama is doing it anyway. So that's that

Certainly, the story cannot become when will the White House endorse the presumptive democratic nominee. I imagine, though, that there will be a tonal shift from all parties involved come Wednesday when all the California results are in that will facilitate this process.

She dropped out 3 days after the last primary/caucus. So Bernie has until June 17th

They've given Bernie a ridiculous amount of power and influence within the past few months considering he's lost by an even wider margin than Clinton did herself in 08. I think it is time to just get the show on the road. He isn't that powerful that Obama doesn't do his job.

I mean...until the FBI issues their judgement (which by all accounts will most likely be not to indict) I do see that as a reason to stay in, should he overstay. He could also be doing that for the welfare of this country
