No. It is LITERALLY THE SAME THING. Forget the limitation on how many you can do and when they do it (especially since the first thing you do can be mega evolving) - they hold an item, they react to the fact that you have a Mega whatever, and they evolve. It uses the same animation, it boosts the stats in the same way, and it enhances the appearance.
It is the same thing.
Snatching your damn clothes colors (???) because it really likes you? Very different and very gimmicky and very pointless. Combining with your characteristics (which is, you know,
actually what Ash Greninja does since Ash Greninja is LITERALLY your only evidence for this being a thing in any way)? Also very different and very gimmicky and very pointless, but with the added bonus of being tacky as hell.
