I like how it went from a Stepford wives dynamic in the beginning with Betty and Don to a more relaxed Californian vibe by the beach at the end of the series.

Yeah, and it all served to underline Don's journey and transition of finding himself. It was pretty brilliant and that's probably why its last season ended up being such a late peak for the show because it all came together beautifully in the end.
+ its movie/director homages and tributes that also serve to underline the weekly themes is sth no other show has even remotely come close to yet to that extent. It's no surprise one of the main writers of The Sopranos ran this show. Talent stays together.
