I think it was obvious that Nicki was asked to perform this year, which is why she said it didn't make much sense, which is true.
It wouldn't have made sense for her to perform a song from TPP at the Grammy's this year when the era was long done, especially when Nicki probably knew she wasn't going to win anything.

Idk. I kinda feel like Nicki and Drake were done with the Grammys because they knew they would give all the awards to Kendrick. They didn't even attend despite many nominations.
