I definitely think that it could be easy to fall into a trap of over-the-top imagery just for the sake of fitting into your type. I'm going to try and aim at making my type come through in other ways, idk. I just don't want to end up messing this up, and really want to work on my characters.
See you in 5 hours though so I can hopefully sign up

What do you mean, can you elaborate?
For a Water song you could write about rain, oceans, lakes, waterfalls, beaches...

Like does the story of the song literally have to be your theme, like do I have to make a song about waves and water etc? or can you just write a story set around your theme/imagery?

I am going to take my time with this round. You can usually tell which lines I wrote first because they're usually the best ones e.g. the first verse or the first part of the chorus. Not gonna happen this time!

Yes, a non literal approach would be recommended in fact

Yeah, I'm a bit confused too.
I know that we're supposed to use imagery related to our topic, but I'm a bit lost on how much imagery you're looking for (does every verse need thematically-related imagery? seems like it'd get very heavyhanded very quickly)? And does it matter what we're using the imagery to describe (ie: using ice imagery in a song about death)?
Would Florence's "Never Let Me Go" be an adequate submission for water?
Would Taylor's "Dear John" work for fire because of its bridge?

I don't really know how to explain my question, but if we were to focus on getting a particular emotion or reaction that invokes the type, would that work?
As a rough example I mean a song like Run The World representing Fire, even though it doesn't necessarily revolve around fire imagery, but the lyrics have aspects to it that could be associated with that type?
I don't know if this makes sense but
edit: basically what Achilles said

your challenge is to write a song that corresponds to ONE Pokémon type of your choosing.

This challenge is testing your ability to stick to one idea, theme or image (in this case a "type"), and being able to fully develop it.
|
It's pretty broad in explanation, imagery isn't the sole way to go about it. To me personally, I just need to be able to know the type without being told outright

True
I guess I was just a bit confused with all the discussion about focusing on imagery and how much that would be weighted
edit: those examples will help!

I want full immersion in the type, not just an allusion to it. For lack of a better explanation or example, something like Ocean Lips which went balls to the wall with the Water imagery would be perfect for this challenge.

I mean, if you're writing a Water song and you talk about lightning briefly, that's fine. It doesn't need to only be Water/Steel/Fighting imagery or whatever, but it should be a majority or at the least a plurality.

Nope.

Florence, yes.
Taylor, no. It would need more than just the bridge.
