I do it like this:
1 - SES / ...
2 - SNSD / WG / 2NE1 / FX ...
3 - SISTAR / AOA / ...
3.5 - GFRIEND / TWICE / ...
Nation's girl group: SNSD
I separate them this way because I feel that 3.5 are tugging really hard on 3 wigs. It feels like a transitional period.

IMO, this is how I see it and I think this way makes the most sense!
1st gen: old groups like hot, shinhwa, ses, baby vox, finkl, boa, rain, dbsk was the last of this gen
2nd gen: ss501 was the beginning of this gen even tho they are more dbsk linked than these other groups, suju, Big Bang, wonsoka, se7en, ukiss (lol), ft island, SHINEE 2pm and 2am were the very end of this gen
3rd gen: 2ne1, 4min, fx, infinite, sistar, t-ara, girls day, beast, CB blue, miss a, teen top, secret etc groups that debuted in 2009-2010. the last of this gen I would say is apink, block b, b1a4 etc
(like 2011 is the cut off for this gen
4th gen: exo, BAP, Aoa, exid, vixx, hello Venus, fiestar, ladies code, btob, bangtan, got7, akmu, (mamamoo are kind of between this gen and 5th gen tbh), etc
5th gen: red velvet are very beginning of this bc technically even tho they debut with 4th gen, i'm putting them here bc of the yeri addition, seventeen, gfriend, twice, IOI, oh my girl, monsta x, cosmic girls, etc
i am ready 2 defend my analysis if needed
