Poor YG. It's all over for him now. JYP has reclaimed the #2 spot.
Who will replace YG in the top 3?

I say our era is ending, which it should, because no era can go on forever. Whether we choose to accept this new era is up to us; you can either roll with the punches or you can get socked in the face, your choice…

It's different w/ k-pop as far as I can see.. you had many great big superstar groups/phenomenons back in the day and they still happen now... Twice, GFriend, Mamamoo, EXO, BTS... all reaching superstar status in a short time frame.

ikr i can see Twice, Gfriend, Red Velvet and even Lovelyz or Oh My Girl being BIGGER worldwide than GG, 2NE1 and Wonder Girls use to be.

but i doubt k-pop will ever go away, it's been happening for decades nowand it still will as years go on and probably divide into the western world as well. so many U.S. fans are discovering it daily and bringing it so much attention so i doubt that ever happening. the fact there's groups that have barely started but have reached iconic levels of super stardom is

I have only been keeping up for close to 5 months so I don't know the history of it all but to me, this is true. It's booming right now in terms of westerners picking up on it and becoming fans. I haven't logged on in tumblr in months at one point and signed on to everyone reblogging idol gifs and pics

I always thought APINK belonged to the awkward in-between gen like Girl's Day and AOA.
Like, what gen are we even in right now? The 4th? Does that mean the 3rd lasted like 3 years?

iKON is YG's only hope now, Lee Hi did not demolish as expected, and neither did WINNER.
and YG cannot have a group do "decently" or be "mid-tier successful*, he wants total domination a la BIGBANG and 2NE1 once did
I bet he's having MELTDOWN after MELTDOWN whenever he refreshes MELON and see
TWICE @ #1 esp. since he'd have had the upper hand had he debuted his GG as planned before Red Velvet, TWICE, and GFriend...

same, I consider anything from the madonna era gen 1,
'07~'09 groups as gen 2
and '14~ groups as gen 3

i've always considered anyone who was around when i was a teen 2nd gen except the groups from 2013/2014 since that would just be ridiculous
Apink will be the last one standing all of the other 2nd/2.5 groups are either done or on their way out except APink who have been getting bigger and bigger

Yeah this makes sense to me. The gen 2 groups were still going strong during 2010-2014 so it would be weird to declare it a different generation

2NE1, KARA, SNSD, and SECRET/AFTER SCHOOL were already a generation of their own when APink debuted.
The gen categorizing will always be subjective though, I've never seen one that completely makes sense. I guess it depends on the time you joined KPop, cauz it's not all debut date, stats and #'s.

!! i swear when i saw half of my mutuals turn into k-pop accounts reblogging all these people i was like 'who the hell ARE these people?' i was so lost at the gifsets too omg.
& just imagine how much more money k-pop labels are making too since most of us aren't used to such dedicated physical copies of albums, so they money their pulling in daily
i feel like this is just the beginning tbh, it's all happening so damn fast too

After School literally debuted before 2NE1 though
I feel like all the 2009 groups should be included in one generation
