Applause was the perfect lead single. It's almost 3x platinum based on its pure sales alone. (It's actually 3x p w/ streaming). It was a success.

The negativity around Gaga is what killed the era. And I guess Aura too. I mean, when you stream that album and you hear aura you just wanna stop. And if you give it another chance, Venus stars playing; and you just give up.

It only sold 2.4 million. I bet if Do What U Want had Applause's payola, it would be a legit hit. It stays winning. I mean, Gaga already had the weight and marketing strain of being a pretentious freak so Applause was a bad idea. Do What U Want could have salvaged her career.

I'm really annoyed that Gagz chose R. Kelly to be on Do What U Want. Why in god's name would you put R. Kelly of all artists on a song with lyrics like "do what you want with my body"?

If Gagz had gotten a male act like JT or Bruno on it, she could have had an Uptown Funk-sized hit. But whatever, the song still did good for a single that didn't get a video.

Umm that's exactly why she put R Kelly on the song and had Terry Richardson shoot the video, she was (desperately) baiting for controversy
