He's not winning the presidency. The media just needs ratings, and they know if it seems close the Democrats will turn out in big numbers because they would be terrified.

Um no, California will go to the Democrat, it always has and many Republicans have been presidents. Democrats count on those big states to always be there, it's really just the swing states that matter.

I'm sure some will rationalize it that it's better than the "lying, corporate shill" that is Hillary Clinton. I don't think the majority of his base will vote for Trump. Based on a poll from a while ago, 75% of Bernie supporters would easily support Hillary in the GE if she won the nomination. I think if Bernie comes out and endorses her in a seemingly natural way, then it would convert a good amount of that 25%. I'm not too worried about it. If they still can't stand Hillary by November, then I would see more people writing in Bernie's name or voting Jill Stein before voting for Donald Trump. Trump literally is the epitome of everything Bernie is against.
