Prostitutes can be perfectly intelligent women who contribute to society, so yes it's sexist to imply that all prostitutes are as useless and talentless as Filth by making that comparison.
Hey yeah, that's a good point...
It just feels weird to see a band prided on feminism sing "YOU DON'T GOTTA WORK, GIRLS!"
It's not empowering? It's stupid/vapid/trivial/sex'd.
When you stop expecting experimental works of art from these throwaway acts, you can settle and enjoy their music for what it is. Yes, it is their labels that made them go this sexual and yes, there is no artistic integrity behind the song or a feminist message. BUT, it's a vapid pop song with a catchy hook.
I'm not stoping them from making that kind of music. Labels know what people want and they provide it and that's the way it is.I don't have to like it. It's just the way they make up faux-explanations that annoy me.
Also a pop songs doesn't have to vapid to be catchy and instantely enjoyable.
For example Habits (Tove Lo) or Style/(Taylor Swift), although by no means experimental, are perfectly catchy pop songs but not vapid and manage to remain interesting in my eyes.

I absolutely agree. I actually argued the same thing yesterday. Pop music doesn't need to be low brow and vapid. Style and Habits however are not good songs Their sorry excuses for feminism is something to be outraged about for sure.
Anyways, it's close enough so that it doesn't matter.
Rihanna came from humble beginnings, never faked Disney'd, kiddo'd music in her career startup.
It is different.
None of them are 17
_______
Anyways, the premise of your argument is problematic. They only have 1 "empowerment" song & clearly that got them no where. Not everyone can be Destinys Child & snatch #1s with classics like Independent Woman, so resorting to "Ass slapping, twerking, opposite-of-empowerment over a DJ Mustard lite, radio friendly song" simply makes then Rihanna-lite.

Those are just examples that came to my mind and I enjoy.
I also could've picked something we both like , like Marina's Froot
White old men told Fifth Wh0remoney, "MAKE THIS OR YOU'RE GONNA BOMB. BE BEYONCE LIKE, BUT SKANKIER."
And? That is what happens to everybody signed onto a major label. I'd be completely annoyed if people like Grimes released Work from home but knowing full well that the song is from a Girl Group discovered on X Factor, did you really expect anything but mindless hooks and faux feminist image? That is has been the girl group formula for several decades.
