No and neither does the Hot 100 (Rihanna should't be anywhere near a tie with Madonna) nor do Grammy's matter (Donna Summer should have 20 and Beyonce 4, but the reality is it's the other way around).

It matters if you sold them purely. Or at least if your pure sales to streaming ratio is not more than 1:1 in my opinion!

people no longer listen to music due to how well it's reviewed, awarded, charted, certified, etc
the power that these things used to have is no longer there with the internet

they still matter, but no where near as much as they did before the digital era

Although counting free copies is kinda fishy. I mean, at least the streaming numbers are counted differently. One free copy shouldn't be given the same importance as one paid copy.

And Youtube streams don't count by the way.

Exactly! I have no problem with streaming going towards certifications but they have to change things so that a couple of popular singles don't push an album.

Uptown Special is probably eligible for some certification due to the success of Uptown Funk despite the fact literally no one bought the album and no one cares about any song on it other than Uptown Funk.

If you look at the weekly BB200 chart, sales are the pits so I understand why streams are being included since consumption is changing.

Unless you're Adele, Taylor or Beyonce, you're just not going platinum in pure sales alone.
