Katy made trap a popular genre outside of urban radio and we can't deny it. The genre already existed before of course, but thanks to her it achieved much broader and global popularity!

Well I mean who listens to urban radio besides America's African American communities? Katy brought it to global pop radio and that's what the thread is about. Likewise, Voguing was a thing in New York gay clubs but it didn't become a global dance craze until Madonna opened the door for it to become one. Of course things are always popular within a small community but that doesn't mean they were popular in a broad sense of things.
