1989 is by far the biggest era. It sold more records, its tour grossed MUCH more, it had insane longevity, multiple hit singles and won AOTY something Adele won't do.
In fact Adele's second and third single which were performed multiple times live and sent to radio fail COMBINED to outsell Wildest Dreams

For examle BTW is not bigger than TD, just cuz it sold more.
But BTW sold 7M and TD sold 6.5M, while TD had more hits and BTW bigger tour by far. So they are about equal.
The case here is 1989 selling how much ? Definitely less than 10M.
And 25 selling 20M.
That difference is big enough, what's so hard to understand ? When was the last time an album sold 20M WW in 5 months ? Excluding 21 ? A difference of 10M albums in 2016 is way more than enough.

Technically HELLO defines 25, it's like saying HELLO to 21, so the result is obvious 21>25 (not mathematically but in the order, you count 21 first, right ), I wrote about this 4 MONTHS ago when HELLO and 25 was HUGE, you guys can find my posts if you are interested.
