This thread is blowing my mind. Like, I always thought wash cloths were pretty much the norm. I've had to use my hands a few times before when in a pinch, but it always made me feel gross and less clean.

That's what I've always wondered about loofahs. I feel like loofahs and those wooden brushes are likely to sit around and collect bacteria.

What you're describing is a hand towel, which is a bit bigger than a wash cloth. Example:
Besides, if I scrubbed vigorously with a cloth or something, it could lead to irritation.
