It's an educated guess based on the size of the digital music market there, the activity in the iTunes store and the certifications. Also by comparing it to other countries. For example, annual digital track sales are around 100 million in both Australia and Japan. And yet the Japanese iTunes store is generally more active than the Australian one, which actually implies that iTunes is more important in Japan than in Australia (where it dominates the market).
But if you want an actual receipt, I don't think there is any.
