Maybe Kesha? She released her debut single in late 2009 but her debut album came out at the very beginning of 2010. Not sure if she counts. Her second album flopped but she was a huge cultural presence with her debut.

Okay..
Are you implying that the likes of Meghan and Lorde are more major than Rihanna and Britney?
I thought you have to take in all elements and areas to consider someone a main popgirl?

I agree with everything you said.
I don't think there is a MAJOR pop girl yet this decade.
Ari has a strong chance depending on the rest of this era and the next one. I think she lost the momentum when she released Focus and now Dangerous Woman.
She just needs to release a couple of more smashes and have her MAJOR pop girl performance and win a couple more awards, and then she'll be one.
Rih didn't become a major pop girl till her 3rd era (regardless if it was 3 years into her career), Taylor didn't become a staple in pop music till the Red era (yes Fearless and Speak Now were huge, but she was still a Country artist), and Katy's first era was v. successful but she didn't cement herself till Teenage Dream happened.
the thing is, what y'all want for a 'major pop girl' to have is starting to become almost impossible in this decade. streaming is taking over, social media is on all kind of other levels, so if your asking for a brand new artist to come out smashing with sales, that'll be impossible if you want them to come close to how the others came out.
but besides that, the only artists so far i can see being a 'major' pop girl are pretty much: Ariana, Lorde (even though she's alternative so idk she fits in the 'pop' genre), and tbh Selena
Ariana has potential and is releasing quality, incredible music. her image tho, it's a bit of a mess. but it's getting better and she's doing the best she can with the whole mess that's happened last year. & regarding sales, she's a streaming artist 110%. i've honestly gotten content with her never having a smash #1 single or huge sales because she never will honestly, no matter what she can do she can't change that. but regardless, in 2 years or so, she'll be near that Taylor, Bey, level or in her own successful lane.
Lorde can if she plays her cards right. Taking time off can be a great thing and since her debut was huge, i'm sure she's gonna end up on top yet again. without a doubt.
& tbh yeah i'm saying Selena can be near that level as well. she's been around for so long and her momentum is only but going up from here. i'm not saying she will be, but her consistency is something i consider pretty damn good for any artist.
1st era with good local #s, decent performance WW (not that good but not bad) but unlike her she even won a Grammy.
NO is doing very good and the TY era will serve to confirm that she's a major pop girl or just a one era wonder, but i think she will have good sales -- not Teenage Dream sized sales, but still.
Ariana had a great era in 2014 but if we take a look on her numbers there's nothing that impressive. Her album didn't even sold 1M in US (ik it's 2x plat thanks to the streams) or 2M WW, the main pop girls did a lot better than her in their huge eras, including Meghan who sold more.
And now Meghan is having another hit and Ariana is struggling to keep DW on the top 10 and the peaks WW are really bad, and the fact that her huge era happened not that long ago makes things even worse for her.
I think only in 2020 or something that a pop girl will start with a global "boom" just like Gaga and Britney, but for now, the only one who came close to this was Meghan.
Wait I forgot about Nicki and Miley. But I agree with Trent, we're overlooking Lana lol. BTD and Paradise EP have outsold many discographies and she's different.
I don't think we will ever have major pop girls again or at least not for awhile. I think we're in the age of lower tier pop girls ruling the world.
Streaming + social media has kind of ruined it now? Just because it's not easy to go platinum (in sales) and it's impossible to stand out. Plus, I feel like pop girls these days don't have the time to develop their image and material. We want things fast and quick.
That was their last album. Rewind is their current album, Changed is their last album. Did you not see where I said singles from their last album did well?

Miley released her first album in 2008 (even earlier if we count Hannah Montana albums)

Adele had a moderate hit, sold 900k albums, and won 2 Grammys before the decade ended so still no
Meghan Trainor will never be on the level of the names of Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, or Katy Perry. Like, that's the definition of delusion.
She is bland and there is nothing interesting about her or her music
Title went platinum in pure sales. 1 of the 7 albums who went platinum in 2015 based on sales alone..Sorry the GP consumes her music and finds it appealing obviously
