Hip-Hop seems to have a shorter commercial shelf-life than any other genre. Most rappers seem to only be very successful (or critically acclaimed) for ~5 years, and there aren't really any legacy acts making big money on tour (I suppose Jay Z is getting there, but it's kinda via Beyoncé). Lil' Wayne is one of many.

BECAUSE URBAN MUSIC is at an all time low
Many pop stars can't make it past 5 years either but there are more superstars that come out of that genre than rap.
Rap has gotten so subpar that rappers who are not manufactured or kendrick lamar/drake struggle to make it past 3 years.
Timbabland said it best that there's no new hip hop stars which is why people still go up for Nas, Biggie, Tupac, Eminem and Jay z.
I KNEW something was going to fall out from the bottom when the gimmicky rap jingles of the mid 00s were selling and turning hip hop into a commercial joke.
Once that party rap/ringtone catchy hook rap thing took full effect in 2001-2005 the rap game was over.
Now you have Drake, Kendrick, J cole and a bunch of manufactured rap stars that either have a good year or two or have longevity but can't sell out tours or shift big units despite heavy promotion.
the mid 00s really did destroy the hip hop community
