Omg y'all. I found a bunch of Selena vinyls on eBay and apparently they're rare as ****. I bid on her debut album hopefully I get it. Pray for me y'all.
No one in my family likes banda tbh. My parents are more into José José and Juan Gabriel type of stuff. It's huge in Mexico though, especially outside the major cities in smaller towns.
i love banda, i love all styles of music except death metal and screamo. so pop, carribean, urban, regional mexican, rock, edm etc i'm here for it.
my family, likes everything music wise too so we listen to a little bit of everything, especially mariachi .

Finally, someone else who appreciates it. I think people use "banda" as a catch-all for Regional Mexican music in general, but there's different styles, even within banda, that are all being dismissed. Sierreño is kind of going through a moment where I live.

The only thing is that it's still too male, str8 dominated.
I'm ready for women, LGBT and younger guys to take over.
very true. i hate the conceited types who see it and label it as "naco music" . i was born here in the US and can sometimes pass for a gringa but i'll be damned if i act like i'm too good for our music. if you don't like it it's cool but i can't with the people who think they're above the genre. Chalino Sanchez, Adan Chalino Sanchez (RIP), Los Tigres Del Norte, Los Cadetes De Linares, Los Tucanes De Tijuana, Intocable, Conjunto Primavera, Banda El Recodo, Julio Preciado, Banda El Limon, Bronco/El Gigante De America, KPaz De La Sierra, Julion Alvarez, Espinosa Paz, Pepe Aguilar etc. just a few of my faves in this genre.
and OMG i LOVE Las Horoscopo, even more now that we got stuck with Chiquis . but you're so right. as much as i love listening to the genre, it needs a bit more variety. cause Chiquis and Ninel Conde are a joke to the genre on the female side. i remember when we had Selena Q (RIP), Carmen Jara, Ana Barbara, Limite/Alicia Villarreal, Jenni Rivera (RIP), Jennifer Pena, Priscilla y Sus Balas De Plata, Graciela Beltran, Shaila Durcal, Las Horoscopo, and a few more. now it's just Chiquis, Ninel and Las Horoscopo (as the main girls) .
and when Thalia released her songs al estilo banda and Alejandra Guzman dragged her for it . Amor A La Mexicana is a bop tho .
Oh wait my dad loves Vicente Fernandez and mariachi. Vicente is like Mexico's Cher because he always says he will retire but keeps doing shows
El REY!! your dad has good taste and lmao at the Mexican Cher. we will be so sad when he really does retire tho. my cousin actually saw him perform with Shaila Durcal and said it was one the best shows she'd seen. .

You just listed all of my cousins and uncles faves. The first half, at least. Tragos Amargos, La Puerta Negra, Que No Quede Huella, Y Todo Para Que were all played to death at every get together. They dragged me to a Norteño/Tejano concert when I was little. I used to hate this type of music too because they'd make fun of me for listening to Selena (seriously) or other pop music. Then I grew up and realized it was the same thing, except with a woman, and they were just being assholes.
Their song I posted was written by Espinoza Paz. He's like the Mexican Sia, writing all of these ANTHEMS for others. His new song, A Veces, is an example of the different styles. I love the super fast stuff like that as well.
