- The German government gave (and still give) compensation to Holocaust survivors and the Israeli government for the horror they faced during World War II

These survivors of the holocaust were DIRECT victims of the tragedy.

- The US government give Native Americans compensation every month/year (?) for taking over their land

They're directly affected by no longer being able to live on their land.

- The Canadian government gave $21,000 to each Canadian Japanese for taking all their belongings (houses, clothing, furniture, etc.) during World War II

Again, they were directly affected by their belongings being taken.


Relatives of slaves, on the other hand, aren't direct victims of the slavery themselves, so the situations can hardly be compared.

When I put the word "compensation" in the thread title, I didn't necessarily mean "money". I was also taking about educational benefits, health benefits, and stuff like that.

Correct, but slavery still has an impact on African Americans born/living in this generation and they still face oppression. They should be compensated, tbh.

A governemnt not doing their job properly isn't going to be fixed by tax exemptions. How would that help the economy? How would it benefit the wider society? It wouldn't.

Money should be spent on public services and such, not just handed out to individuals (essentially what a tax exemption is).

Like I said, improve public services in the areas with many underpriveleged black people. Maybe a nicer school with more resources. That's how they should bridge the gap.

Giving individuals reparations won't help society.
