LGBT has come too far to let some DUSTIES tell us that we're lower than they are because of something that's uncontrollable. So she can have her opinion (as we all do), but she shouldn't be surprised if she gets a lashing.

Okay? Doesn't make me feel any better about her. It's coming from a place of ignorance and I hope she finds more accepting viewpoints in the future.

People complaining in here stop making everything about yourselves. Respect our beliefs and our religion, just like y'all gays want to be respected. We all have different points of views, but that doesn't mean they're wrong.
And she has a point with the "gay lifestyle" comment or are you going to tell me people don't choose to be extrovert fems? I guess that's what she's referring to, and I completely agree.

I'll say one final thing and then I'm going to leave because all this back-and-forth is getting absolutely nowhere: the thing I find most unfortunate about the defensive stance that people are taking for her is that she would be unanimously dragged to the pits if she made a similar comment like this in basically any other context besides homosexuality. Like imagine if one of these had been her quotes instead:
- "I disagree with the lifestyle of being a woman, but I know a lot of nice women so I respect them."
- "I personally disagree with the black lifestyle, but I've personally met a lot of black people that I like, so I have no problem with them and we should all just respect each other."
Absolutely NOBODY would be trying to defend those comments or insist that we shouldn't care because "there are bigger battles to fight" and "she's irrelevant anyways". But sub in sexual orientation for race or gender and suddenly we should all just let this slide. It's sad honestly.

Southern stubborness is not something that can be cured. It's too deep rooted in this area and Mississipi ranks as the worst in the region.
I'm from Tennessee and my mother's views on LGBT mirror this girl's perfectly. She has two gay siblings, both of which have had partners longer than she has and anyone else in my family, as well as a gay son (me). No matter what type of rational explanation you give, i.e. putting a parallel of the discrimination of homosexuality to discrimination against blacks simply because it's "different", she still insists that it's a lifestyle choice because that's what her dear bible told her it is. Without that bible she, in her own words, would "break down". And aggressive religion the south would lose its seams, something it doesn't want to do hence why it lacks in social progression compared to the rest of the states.

I was rooting for her throughout the show, but now I could give a rats ass.
She wasn't wrong, but it was a wrong choice of words. #15MINAREOVERHUNTY

OK in this context I draw the line, because that makes an incorrect generalization of the gay community. Maybe I'm just making a lighter, more friendly (more probable) assumption

You're calling a race/gender similar to a homosexual?
We shouldn't diminish or exclude the reality of a homosexual, but we don't have to agree with somebody being that way. If someone is deeply invested in a relationship with their religion, you're basically saying they have to give it up/adjust it to accept your reality over their own.

I don't get it. Why do people always attack Islam here and feel like they can because it condemns homosexuality when Christianity also condemns it?

Let's get one thing clear: nobody in this thread needs her to support the gays, nobody is asking that from her. But if she is going to voice her opinion to the press about the LGBT community, she should at least be allowed to be scrutinized by the members of that community, no? What are y'all mad about? That people who actually know what it's like to be gay have a difference of opinion? And perhaps want to correct her? It's funny how you guys are okay with homophobia when it's under the guise of "coexistence and respect".

They don't choose to be like that, they're just comfortable enough with themselves they don't try to hide it. The amount of ridicule and discrimination feminine gays receive, even amongst their own community is disgusting.

+1
Everyone has their own reality, I think that's really what everyone here refuses to accept. Your beliefs are truth to no one but yourself

this as well. and generalizing the entire LGBT community as extroverted fems is too much. People shouldn't be judged for the courage to express themselves in a way that makes them confident and love themselves

It's not the first time religion has been behind the times, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Mormon's have some kind of rule about Mexicans and black people being barred from their churches? But I guess you think them changing was a coincidence

I'm pretty sure that's not what she's referring to at all, and you're projecting your feelings onto her. Also mess at you citing out extroversion like it's a negative quality

Naturally flamboyant? Do you have proof to back up this claim?

Idk? I'm not of that faith, but imo you can't really see religion through a sense outside of it. It's a totally immersing relationship. & it's mostly about love, so I'm dumb for coming in here & yelling/squealing at everyone. But, I still stand with what I said.
