5. Dollas n Diamonds: Pentatonix - 'PTX'
I did enjoy the song. Very catchy, very fresh and cool for the dancefloor. Now, I want you to accept my criticism in the best way possible. Your essays are too “technical”. You assume I know who each member is and what they do in the song. It just gets confusing and I lose track. You were very technical and didn’t make it personal.
6. Nait Phoenix: Janet Jackson - 'Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814'
Fair enough… Now why did you choose the song? Only because of its impact on dance videos? Why does it make you want to dance? There was a lot of things unsaid.

2. sumthintoxic82: Britney Spears - 'Britney'
I wish you’d be a bit less general on your essays and be more specific. This round was about a song that made you want to dance, not about Britney’s passion to dance, you know? Nonetheless, you took no risks and you sent the perfect song. I liked your last paragraph.
11. Bloomers: Vince Staples - 'Summertime '06'
Starting with the essay, very well articulated and just amazing and interesting to read. I love how you used a quote. The song’s beat is actually interesting and sounds fresh!

The challenge was to choose a song that makes you move, and to explain your choice. This instruction couldn't be more precise than that - yet you are among the only few who got it - explaining how the song makes you personally groove and feel, instead of taking a general instance. The process of demonstrating which parts of the song trigger which bodily movements is rightfully seen throughout your essay, even though I think that you could have executed it better by condensing it to remove repetitive thoughts and unneeded lines. |
 | Bloomers: Vince Staples - 'Summertime '06': "Norf Norf"
The humorous introduction is already an indication that you are talking about yourself, and this personal approach is expectedly reflected throughout the rest of your essay. You were among the very few to understand that this was not a general round, and you explained how "Norf Norf" makes you dance while Staples sets the tone. The line "running through the city’s regular rhythms" is wisely penned, showing how you still manage to describe the song all while bridging it to the aspect of dance and sound. |
 | sumthintoxic82: Britney Spears - 'Britney': "I'm A Slave 4 U"
Wanting to break free from the strings that bind us and instead choosing to be a slave to the music, because that's what sets us free. This concept is well seen in your essay, but I wish that you would replace some 'you's in your essay to 'me', because I wanted a more personal approach this round. However, I could feel a connection to you at times, for example the way practicing the choreography makes you feel better, or the theurapeutic feeling that you feel while watching Britney expressing herself through this song. |
 | igor: Little Mix - 'Get Weird': "Grown"
The theme of dancing is apparent throughout, but it reads more traditional than personal in the sense that I see the body movements and how it inspires someone to dance, but I don't see enough connection between you and the song. The saving grace however is that some of the 'you's can be perceived as 'me's or'I's since some claims like 'My favorite part' are made. |
 | lhdang2000: Demi Lovato - 'Confident': "Kingdom Come (feat. Iggy Azalea)"
Your essay reads as a complete package, speaking about Demi, the song, and how the theme of dance emanates through it. There was a balance between the general and the personal in your essay, but I wish that you had focused more on yourself and how the song makes you move. |
 | Pedro: Fifth Harmony - 'Reflection': "Body Rock"
Your strongest essay so far in terms of writing style, and it reads eloquently from start to finish, showcasing the Dance theme through this song and how it makes the listener feel. It even reads like a great empowerment text, and this is probably why the essay felt too general. I was expecting a more personal account of how the song makes you move - which I only got towards the end. |
 | Element: Ellie Goulding - 'Delirium': "We Can't Move To This"
Once again, your entry presents itself beautifully with rhetoric lines, and the theme of Dance is touched throughout. However, it was just that - a block of text rightfully introducing Goulding on the dancefloor, but instead of showing how the song makes you move, you went too general with it and therefore lacked the personal element. |
 | Dollas n Diamonds: Pentatonix - 'PTX': "Love Again (Original Song)"
The usual procedure of how the song is constructed is intricately and sophistically written in your essay, resulting in the notion of how it makes the listener want to join the party. However, the majority of the content is concentrated towards this 'making of', and even while writing about the dance aspect, you were too general, instead of being personal and explain how it makes you move. |
 | Vulnicura: Björk - 'Post': "It's Oh So Quiet"
The first half of your essay was a beautiful introduction to "It's Oh So Quiet", and even though I saw no relevance to the theme of dancing in those lines, it was ironically better than the second half. Your approach was general, and I was looking forward to see how the song makes you move personally - something I saw no trace of. |
 | holyground: Florence + the Machine - 'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful': "Delilah"
The approach was right, but the excecution was weak. I was not expecting a dance track at all, therefore the lack of confidence and apologetic undertone about not sending a typical dance song felt really unwelcome in your essay. Even if you nicely and beautifully expressed how the sounds manifest into physical movements, you were too general with it as opposed to being personal and state how it makes you move. |
 | Vilppu: Nightwish - 'Imaginaerum': "I Want My Tears Back"
The ideas were right, but you implemented them poorly. I understand everything that you wanted to write, but the essay came off as apologetic and has a lot of positive-negative turns. I was neither expecting a dance track, nor expecting your dance to fit the norm of choreography. You did mention how the song makes you move, but if the essay lacked uncertainty and justifying lines, then it would have been a great statement of how non-dance music can be expressed through movements as well. |
 | Nait Phoenix: Janet Jackson - 'Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814': "Miss You Much"
'Choose a dance song' is how you read the challenge as, when it was in fact 'Choose a song that makes you move'. I am sure that this song makes you move, but your essay does not reflect upon that. Instead, you went into the politics of the song, explaining how it is the first single, the choreography, Janet's status, and even referencing other tracks that mirror this one. Even when you subtly showed how it may trigger body movements, I never saw how it makes you move personally. Although not expected, I did not even see a general approach where you tell listeners how they can be affected by it. I looked for an explanation, but I only found a statement: 'This is a dance song, Janet, Janet, Janet, you can dance to it'. |

True talk, I listened to your song first before even reading your entry, and I wasn’t sold. However, the strength of the reasons you listed in your entry were enough to sway me – others take note: it’s not always about just giving high scores to songs we love, but rather thinking about the strength (or weakness) of your entries in justifying your song choice. I thought it was neat how you mentioned different dance styles that would work for this song, that really sold it for me.
8/10
2. sumthintoxic82: Britney Spears - 'Britney': "I'm A Slave 4 U"
Yes. Just yes. An absolutely iconic dance song. You took it one step further by exploring the lyrical connection to being a slave to dance music rather than just focusing on the dancing in the video. Fabulous.
10/10
3. Pedro: Fifth Harmony - 'Reflection': "Body Rock"
The problem I have with this song is that while it is undoubtedly a dance song, it just comes across as a generic one. There’s more to making me want to dance than a club beat. That being said, it’s not horrible, I just find that amongst the other entries it seems a bit fluffier and weaker. I wanted to be convinced by your essay, but it just described the song more or and focused on a love element which I found a little sidetracking. Just being honest, not my favourite entry from you.
6/10
4. Speezy: Jordin Sparks - 'Right Here, Right Now': "Work From Home (feat. B.o.B.)"
I find the song repetitive, and not in a catchy “make me want to dance” way. The slow intro also kills a bit of the dance feel, but thankfully it does pick up from there. Like Pedro’s entry, yes – this is a dance song, but it just feels a bit…stale? Your entry would have been stronger if you included the time of that B.O.B. rap line you like…I would have stuck around if I knew when it was coming, but I wasn’t willing to sit through the whole thing to find it.
6/10
5. Dollas n Diamonds: Pentatonix - 'PTX': "Love Again (Original Song)"
Hmmm…I don’t know…you were so ambitious choosing the album you did, but I feel like the cracks are starting to show. I can’t really imagine anyone dancing to this song to be honest, and I find this song a bit jarring to listen to. It just sounds a bit silly. I thought your entry was actually a bit too long as well. I don’t want to come for your entry this much, but I have to be honest – it was one of the weaker ones.
5/10
6. Nait Phoenix: Janet Jackson - 'Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814': "Miss You Much"
Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing that a “dance song” is more than just a chugging club beat. THIS is what it’s about. Simply iconic, that’s all there really is to say. For your write up, week after week I feel your PASSION for this album…and I love that. It’s really what separates your entries from someone just simply describing a song to me. Great work.
10/10
7. holyground: Florence + the Machine - 'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful': "Delilah"
I kid you not, I remember the first time I heard this song when it was released…and yes, I danced HARD to it all around my kitchen, haha. I literally LOSE it when the tamborines come in around 2:40 – that just makes me want to move more than some techno beat ever could. I found the essay a little disjointed however…I didn’t actually think the lyric connection was needed so much as the sound alone makes this such a dancey song.
9/10
8. igor: Little Mix - 'Get Weird': "Grown"
Ok, I’m guilty, my shoulders DID move at that intro…and that’s before I even read that you wrote that! It’s pretty catchy for sure, and I appreciate that it doesn’t stay the same throughout. That keeps it fresh and makes me want to keep listening. I could see this making people dance for sure.
8/10
9. Vilppu: Nightwish - 'Imaginaerum': "I Want My Tears Back"
I appreciate your effort in linking this song to the “dance” round, but I just don’t see it honestly (and I’m willing to bet you don’t fully either…it is a stretch!). Like the Pentatonix album, you’ve picked something risky but done a good job representing it so far…I just think some cracks are starting to show because the lack of versatility on the album. There is nothing really fitting to this round to put it plain and simply, so unfortunately your rate has to reflect that.
4/10
10. Vulnicura: Björk - 'Post': "It's Oh So Quiet"
COME THROUGH. I was so prepared to drag you if you chose any other song…this just screams DANCE (and it’s not only because of the brilliant music video which is basically broadway come to life in the land of Bjork). This is such a perfect fit for this round, shows the versatility of your album (which is KEY in this game), and explores what “dance music” is beyond the superficial definition. Great work.
10/10
11. Bloomers: Vince Staples - 'Summertime '06': "Norf Norf"
Your entry made me laugh, I did end up googling that quote…ha! I honestly remember the first time you submitted this, it honestly made me bop and dance in my seat. So yeah, great song choice for this round. It’s interesting to consider the difference between the “fun beat” and the heavier lyrics. That maybe takes it down a notch in my eyes…while I appreciate him acknowledging the subject matter he does, if I were dancing and realized the song topic, it’d probably kill the celebratory feel of dance…
7.5/10
12. lhdang2000: Demi Lovato - 'Confident': "Kingdom Come (feat. Iggy Azalea)"
Hmmm…I honestly don’t see a “dance” vibe from this song with the exception of the trap influenced bit. I certainly am not inspired to get up and move. It’s a bit slow, honestly. Your essay was a bit weak too and I found the grammar errors distracting.
5/10

I think you did pretty good at describing your choice. I wish you focused just a little bit more on the lyrical content, but other than that, it's a great start for this round
Britney Spears - I'm a Slave 4 U
A bit exaggerated at the "slave to the music" part, in my opinion, but not anything really important. You explained yourself amazingly and you definitely chose the most obvious and iconic choice which is amazing. Congrats!
Fifth Harmony - Body Rock
Good choice musically and I think your essay is pretty strong as well. You explained the meaning of the song really well and it felt like it was a round meant for you. Good job!
Jordin Sparks - Work From Home
I mean, I agree with it musically and it's a dancey track to some extent, but you lack the true explanation in the essay. I wish you included some descriptions of the lyrics, the theme of the song and not only its melody.
Pentatonix - Love Again
Similarly to Jordin's case, you could have explained the lyrics a bit more as well. I like how you explained what each of the members does, but considering the fact that the lyrics have a reference to dancing too, you could have mentioned that as well.
Janet Jackson - Miss You Much
Why is the audio SO loud? Anyway, back to your entry, I feel that you are trying to say a lot in your essay, but in the end, you don't. Explain me why YOU chose it and not why Janet would've. You've mostly explained me the choreography and the impact it had, but not the song itself as well.
Florence + The Machine - Delilah
Amazing explanation. You did the lyrics, the melody, everything. Congrats!
Little Mix - Grown
I guess I am okay with your essay, but it doesn't shine among the others and neither does the song. Overall, you did a good job, but other than giving you a sexy feeling and making you confident, I don't get very much out of the essay. It is good you explained a bit the lyrical content as well though.
Nightwish - I Want My Tears Back
But the lyrics are important, even though they don't express anything related to dancing. Rude of you to leave them. I'm ok with your explanation, but I wish you included a bit more.
Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet
Drag me for loving this song, although I guess it is hated by many Bjork fans as it's very different from her usual work. I'm glad she did it and I wish you didn't drag it in half of your essay. I'm quite okay with the rest of your explanation.
Vince Staples - Norf Norf
I think you did fairly well at explaining yourself. Maybe you should have focused just a little bit more on why the song makes you dance, how did Vince create the beat and so on. Other than that, you did a pretty good job.
Demi Lovato - Kingdom Come (feat. Iggy Azalea)
I wouldn't say the song is strictly empowering, it's more of a description of a true love story or something like this. There is very little information on why the song makes you dance, a "rhythm" doesn't tell me anything.
Ellie Goulding - 9/10
Britney Spears - 10/10
Fifth Harmony - 10/10
Jordin Sparks - 7/10
Pentatonix - 8/10
Janet Jackson - 6.5/10
Florence + The Machine - 10/10
Little Mix - 8.5/10
Nightwish - 6.5/10
Bjork - 7,5/10
Vince Staples - 9/10
Demi Lovato - 6.5/10

8/10: Your essay is on point as usual, but your song choice wasn't the best. You ironically went with a song that is titled "We Can't Move To This" for the Just Dance round . I guess it's clever yeah, and I did like how you decided to continue using unused tracks instead of reusing one of the afore mentioned songs you brought up in the essay, but I don't know, I feel like this round you could have used another song. Maybe Around U or Don't Need Nobody if you wanted to use an unused song. Still a decent entry though
2. Britney Spears - Britney
10/10: Obvious choice, but it was made for this round. The most danceable song off Britney.
3. Fifth Harmony - Reflection
8/10: This fits the round, just not sure if it was the best choice. I think Worth It could have been used again and still represent your essay. Or you could have sent Top Down or This Is How We Roll. But still, you backed this song pretty well with your essay.
4. Jordin Sparks - Right Here, Right Now
8/10: Mess, I'm listening to 5H's Work From Home while ranking this. Anyways, I think you did the best you could this round. The song still is a bit...iffy for my taste but your essay was pretty strong this round.
5. Pentatonix - PTX
10/10: This is so damn rad! I can't believe these guys created something that sounds so damn raging just with their voices - Great choice this round and your essay backed it up to the T
6. Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814
10/10: Yeah this slays . Rhythm Nation would have worked too but your essay was really convincing and it had all the concrete detail needed to back up why you chose Miss You Much. You pretty much aced the round. And this was my favorite essay of the round
7. Florence + The Machine - How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
10/10: Yeah, I can definitely see this being used for a contemporary dance. Great choice.
8. Little Mix - Get Weird
10/10: Yep. Very fast-paced, very empowering, very sassy, very energetic, very pumping. Good choice.
9. Nightwish - Imagineerum
8/10: I feel like the guys in this game don't imagine contemporary dance like I can. The guitar solos are quirky enough and the choruses are quirky enough that I could see them being used in dance routines. I think you did pretty well with that you had.
10. Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet
10/10: I can totally envision a jazz dance party to this song This is so throwback and I can totally imagine Disney characters dancing to it too
11. Vince Staples - Summertime '06
4/10: I don't know dude. I'm just not feeling it. The vibe of this song is a beat too dark to really be a danceable song. I'll agree that it is an easily accessible song to get into, but I just can't imagine someone dancing a routine to this unless the song was briefly used and remixed. I feel like this was more of a personal essay than an essay convincing US why it's good for this round.
12. Demi Lovato - Confident
4/10: MESS. You actually could have used Stars for this round. Kingdom Come is kinda danceable, but I feel like the verses aren't pulsing and pumping enough to make the chorus powerful. Even with Stars banned, you could have used Cool For the Summer or Confident again, as they have more energy and pump than this does.

I guess it can look embarassing for the "host" to be eliminated but, at this point, I got used to it. Eventhough it is my game, that is not an advantage. Actually it is the opposite as people may expect more from me since I created it. I have played the game three times, I lost all of them but I've never ranked as low and that's what I want to discuss.
I must say I am a bit disappointed - and I am not going to criticize anyone - by the way my album was handled but I guess that's what you get for having one of the most known albums of the set, right? I feel like I did great the big majority of the rounds but there was always someone who had something to say.
Let's talk first round! A lot of people voted me off saying I had "better choices". The thing about this game is your way of presenting your album, not the way you want it to be presented. That repeated itself a lot of times. Just this round, MusicLoverDude said I should've sent "Worth It". What if he didn't know my album at all? Would I get a better score?
I do admit that the round I was the most shocked and, until today, I haven't accepted the criticism was the instrumental round where Kavish basically scored me the least when I had one of the best entries overall. I didn't find it fair at all but, of course, I am not going to say: "Look, Kavish. You were unfair. You are kicked out of my game because you were unfair".
Anyway, yeah. I am a bit let down by the way my album was handled by certain members of the game but I am happy that I got to end with "Body Rock", one of my favorites tracks from the album. There was a lot more I wanted to show you, especially "Everlasting Love" or "Going Nowhere". "Reflection" is an amazing album and an amazing debut. It showcases so many different genres and I am sure if you have the time to check it out, you'll love it.
Good Luck to the remaining contestants!

Drag me for loving this song, although I guess it is hated by many Bjork fans as it's very different from her usual work. I'm glad she did it and I wish you didn't drag it in half of your essay. I'm quite okay with the rest of your explanation.
|
what kinda reach? at most, I expressed my disappointment that one of bjork's most well known songs is a cover when her original work stands much taller! I never said that the song was bad or that liking the song is bad.

Don't get me wrong. You have a great way with words but there is way too many description and lack of humanity in your essays, this one the most for me.

For what it's worth, I've never actually heard your album in it's entirety - there are other albums in the game I am much more familiar with.
I'm sorry you are feeling disappointed, Pedro.

No, I know. I guess you said that before. I just don't exactly appreciate being voted off (or rated low) with arguments such as: "You should have used this instead of that".

that part i totally agree with although its a bit of a matter of opinion (on what you're looking for) its harder for me to write personally and still have it up to my personal quality standard so i havent unless the round calls for it. personally i really liked your song and i would have saved you with Jordin but the casual colloquial writing style didn't click with me at all.
honestly almost everyone's essay (including mine) was cringy to me with cliches like get your feet on the floor and will make you shake your hips, and pump up the party
i don't like being told how music is going to make me feel. it feels forced

i really loved the jazz sound the swing feel was wonderful but to me it was far to disjointed to actually dance to

YASSSSSSSSS at me climbing 2 spots and being #2 on the leaderboard!
Thanks to everyone who saved me this round and to the judges, especially MLD for the 10!
I'm sad to see Demi go, I thought Kingdom Come was a great choice, it was my third favorite to save, I don't get the hate!
As for 5H, I don't like them, I could spend hours here saying why I think their album is bad, but I tried to let my personal taste aside and off and save them when I thought it was fair. This round, for example, I totally hated Body Rock, it's too generic and without any personality, but it is a dance song and fits the round theme, so I didn't offed it.
