While pay for play is still a real thing nowadays.
Back then, it was truly a real thing. I mean Britney's 3rd era was blacklisted because she chose to go with concert west or aeg instead of clear channel for her tour.
Pepsi sponsor and guaranteed more money...I guess it was worth it.
It still amazes me how little airplay she had and being on one format and yet she still outsold the girls that were on pop/country r&b hip hop or whatever dual or triple format benefit they had.
Whew had Britney chosen less money but more airplay
Britney era halting at 4.9M would probably have gone 6x platinum
It was worth it as more money and power with pepsi landed her as the youngest to top forbes celebrity 100.
Britney always wins
