So i've finally put the final touches of my ANTI (reworked version) after countless listen of the masterpiece.
I've tried tons of combination since last january, and this is the one that works the most for me, i've changed the combination almost every two days
But this one i've kept for two weeks now, it flows so well, it's flawless and it's final.
"Goodnight Gotham" as the intro was a given, it's perfect. If "Mad House" works, this works even better.
I switched "James Joint" and "Kiss It Better", "Intro" then "short song" then "interlude" doesn't work. The album is breathing too much in the beginning, it's better to space out the short tracks.
"Sex with Me" followed by "Work" is a match made in heaven. They have a lot in common, accent and sassy gibberish. + the transition "James Joint" to "Sex with Me" is on point.
"Pose > BBHMM > Needed Me > Woo" = "trap extravaganza". This whole segment is basically Bibi Bourelly/Travis Scott. I always found "Bitch Better Have My Money" as a title way too long. "BBHMM" as a typo is better, it's cool and everyone use it, even the video did.
"American Oxygen" was a tough tough tough job. For a long time it was at the end with "Close To You" then it replaced "Consideration" as opening track. It didn't work for both. It travelled in the middle of the album for a long time until it find it's place between "Woo" and "Desperado". After "Woo" because "Woo" is an experimental mess just like AO2, they work well together and before "Desperado", because "Desperado" immediately makes me think of this fusion of latin america/texas/caribbean. I can't help but think of an outlaw female cowboy on the run when listening to this song. Anyway this very american.
"Yeah I Said It" is the perfect introduction to "Same Ol Mistakes", no need to change anything here.
Putting "FourFiveSeconds" after the guitar-driven "Never Ending" was an obvious choice from the moment i first listened to the album. They perfect for each other. + the combo "Never Ending/FourFiveSeconds/Love on the Brain/Higher" is very organic, this combination of raspy voice and soulful instrumental works great. The "Timeless" segment.
"Close To You" has always been the closing track and you could easily ignore "Towards the Sun" cause CTY as the end is logic and perfect.
But i personally didn't want the album to end on a depressing note, i wanted a more hopeful/upbeat note. That's when "The Weeknd" comes in. I was listening to "Beauty Behind The Madness" a lot lately and i was thinking of how well "Angel" work as a closing track with it's grandiloquent production and children choir at the end. And i was like wait! Rih has that kind of track: the flawless "Towards the Sun". The lyrics are dark and fit ANTI perfectly + she has that high pitched voice that she used a few tracks earlier in LOTB. It's meant to be.
Y'all can see that the album is kinda divided in two, the sex/ratchet driven first part, the soulful/meaningful driven second part. But there's Consideration/Needed Me/AO2/Desperado to blur the line lyrically between the two part a little.
I changed the cover too because i didn't want to confuse my reworked version with the original 16 tracks album.
This way i have both.
