I feel that statement is more "Beyoncé stopped trying to make her music climb the charts" rather than "making music for the charts".

Clearly songs like Pretty Hurts and XO and even DIL are made knowing what's also hot in music, but she's let them speak for themselves. Times have changed since CIL was released. If she didn't promote it then it wouldn't be the iconic hit it is. But now with the internet being so prevalent in how we share and consume music, a song like Formation which is never released is known by people of all generations, all around the world and that would be the case even without the Super Bowl performance.

She knows her power and she uses it well, I think.

Ya. I just want promo for the sake of seeing her perform it live. I don't care if she does it on TV or just makes her own live videos, I just want live performances that aren't the tour.

The majority of Columbia didn't know. Rob Stringer did and probably a handful of other executives and that's it. They told people there was a holiday party and then they surprise screened the album for the rest of the team and it went live around the time the screening was over

Anyway, in the grand scheme of time we are SO close guys. Omg

Thank you. There were several articles about this when the album first came out. Rob knew and maybe one or two other people tops from the label but everyone else that knew were from Bey's side and only about 12 ppl knew in total. Columbia found out an hour before we did. I know I read that lol

I get this, but this is BEY we're talking about. She is NOT going to want to do the exact same thing that Kanye and Rih did. If no one else had done an exclusive, I would be 100% sure that she would, but she is adamant about being the first or coming from left field. An exclusive is too predictable... She didn't get a whole new team to plop her album on no ***** tidal NO

It won't be a Kanye situation. If it didn't go for sale Columbia would make practically no money off this era because they don't get anything from her tours, do they?

The most we have to worry about is like a short window of exclusivity then it'll be on iTunes.

Tidal aside, is there a way she could put the album on preorder without it coming out hours in advance in New Zealand? I seriously think that if she put it up for preorder that it would have the possibility of pushing more than 1mil the first week. That fake track list and cover got like 15k RTs on just one account. The demand is there.

If the joint album with jay is true I think that will be the one that will go to tidal exclusively like TLOP while B6 will have a normal release but will be exclusive to tidal for streaming for a period of time.

But lets not act like columbia couldnt have shelved Self-Titled if they didnt feel like they would profit. Just like with drake and his last album that he recently released. He was forced by Cash Money even tho he wanted it to be a free mixtape. But the label seen dollar signs.
