And let's not with these receipts of 2-3 years ago. We are in 2016 everyone! And in 2016, Ariana is struggling to sell a little over 100k with her singles on the release week, while Selena had 3 top 10 on her current era + 2nd biggest female debut of 2015 with GFY.

Arianators acting like Ariana's music is not generic

Problem is basically Talk Dirty 2.0 and with a feature with one of the it girls of 2014; The Way basically sounds like any Mariah song and DW is basically a female version of Earned It

Lana hardly made the sound popular. And GFY is very distinctive from a Lorde song. So I don't see where you're going with this. Focus, however, is a rehash of Problem and DW is just a female The Weeknd song.

But this isn't even the point of the thread...? The question was relating to their debuts and why Selena managed to do what most people doubted (myself included). Like prior to these releases, I would have never guessed that Selena's lead would have debuted higher and performed better than both of Ariana's leads.
