TS3 had its flaws but comparing TS3 Vanilla to TS4 Vanilla, TS3 is the winner gameplay wise. However I had problems playing it at times cause the coding wasn't well done (in certain depts.) and if you didn't have a certain type of graphics card, even if you had a gaming pc, ram, and etc., the graphics were a bit lackluster.
So in all TS3 was amazing when it worked, but when it didn't, it kinda sucked. TS4 on the other hand runs smoothly most of the time but it's too boring, and limited. I will note CAS and Build Mode are stellar. A lot of fans were expecting something much better than TS3 with 2010-2014 technology, but in a lot ways fans got a TS2: 2014 Edition.
I hope for the sake of the franchise this game sells enough to garner interest in creating a TS5.

The thing with TS3, despite all of its errors, it was at least ambitious. The base game aimed to create a new style of game play by opening up the world and allowing for greater customization of the world and its characters. The game just has a lot of technical issues that really should have been fixed in TS4, not completely thrown out.

I agree with you on this. The bugs for me ruined the game. I hated how the game looked in general without CC. I hate THOUSANDS of files in Mods/packages folder
And downloading an enormous amount of CC broke my game and made it unplayable.

Pescado (the AwesomeMod creator) said he's working on something for TS4 but he's just starting to test the game. 😱

Didn't he create BBQ baby mod for The Sims 2?
AwesomeMod for 4 would be amazing
I wish NRaas gets back too. He said he won't bother creating mods for the game months before it came out.

It literally wasn't ambitious though. It was literally the Sims 2 badly coded into Open World as a cheap gimmick. The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 are literally the same game with cosmetic changes, which is one of main reasons why the graphics weren't updated much at all.
People found it out once they started to work on emulating the game for Linux users that they shared the same code.
EA just wanted to make money from selling more DLC without having to invest in a new game.
Even the Sims 3 on Wii is a rebuild of The Sims 2 console games. They also share the same build and emulation code. The 3DS was also a rebuild of the Sims 2 console.
The only version of the Sims 3 that was built from scratch was The Sims 3 games for PS3 and Xbox 360 which funnily enough wasn't developed by EA. And those versions aren't Open World because the developers of them said there were too many technical issues in trying to making it Open World.
Very telling.

Except there are over 80k players playing on weekends which is more than most games on Steam, AND more than the Sims 3 ever did
Also the Sims 4 has been played more each quarter than the Sims 3 managed since launch. Mainly because people had issues even getting the Sims 3 to run.

Actually, if any of you have a PS3/360, the Sims 3 games are amazing on that.

The Sims 3 definitely had ambitious ideas behind it, unlike The Sims 4. I definitely agree with the DLC bit, but TS3 at least tried to engage its audience. TS4 was an admitted rush release. I would understand your viewpoint if we got the online version of TS4 and fans were displeased, despite the game having solid gameplay. However TS4 brings absolutely new to the table. Sims 1-3 added drastic new elements to the franchise.
Edit: TS3 console is awful, but if you stan for TS4 I can see why you would like it.

The Sims 4 does though, it just isn't something you notice looking at the game like Open World or CASt
The multitasking, more complex CAS etc. the Emotions which drastically alter the Sims themselves.
Also the DLC for the Sims 4 has also been very ambiguous .
I mean the Sims 4 isn't as good as the console Sims 3 games, no way. But in terms of the other versions of the Sims 3 which are so bad EA had to either take it off the shelf, or release a patch that forced users to use only one or two DLC packs at a time so the game still ran? Not so much.
They removed the forced to play with only 2 packs option like a month later but they still tried.

The base game is still the same minus a few extras. Where it shines better is the DLC.
The most recent expansion has one of the highest user metacritc scores from fans for a long time.

Those are minor changes. Multitasking has created more issues than enjoyable game play, but the idea is nice and welcomed. Emotions were already present and displayed better in The Sims 2. I didn't need my sim to get inspired by a shower or from a painting. Also none of these emotions matter if sims don't act appropriately (sims not caring if cheated on, for example), or if they change at an unrealistic speed. Again, minor changes, adding nothing revolutionary to the game itself.
Yes, TS3 had its issues. I am sure any fan of that installment will you tell you that. The biggest issue is that they completely tossed it instead of fixing it. It's 2016, and The Sims franchise is no where near where it should be. It's not truly advancing, and any small step forward is met with 100 steps backwards. It's not that the game is truly awful, it's just that we were given so much with the Sims 2 + 3 and given so very little with 4. I am not waiting for EPs to turn this game into a game.
