Samsung cameras are pretty great, but when it comes to taking pictures of people, they're a complete waste.
I have a Note 5, and my skin looks so yellow and off with the selfie cam, its disgusting. Look like a light bulb. And lets not get started on the fact that they're sharpened to the point where it looks like a painting...
It gets even worse with the back camera. Put the flash on and you have an explosion of yellow.

I've used my friends' iPhones a couple of times and they're much better w selfies.

Sis, it's a hardware issue... Not software.

The Google Camera app still uses the same algorithms of processing images that all the other camera apps do. That discoloration all boils down to the Galaxy hardware's image processor and camera module.

default camera apps can add extra software processing so they can make you think you're getting "better" shots or so they can look more "realistic" on oversaturated screens, that's why doesn't hurt to try a stock camera like cyanogenmod or google, you might see a difference

You're comparing this to a 6 month old phone. In 6 months from now, we will be saying the iPhone 7's camera blows this out of the water. That's just how fast Apple, Sony, and Samsung innovate within their mobile optics divisions. They each employ hundreds of people just to work on their cameras. Some of you are so short-sighted and completely off purpose trying to make it seem like this isn't to be expected or routine.

But what good is amazing hardware if the software isn't properly optimized?

That's like having an amazing computer with top-notch specs, but if you don't know how to take advantage of it, then what's the purpose of having such a high end computer?

Software is just as important, if not more important than hardware in many cases.
