and many more examples of threads about disturbing news were posted in the lounge section and they were never shut down, even though the contents of these threads are 100% against the rules you just quoted, if you're going to apply the rules and guidelines don't pick and choose what threads you want to close, the same rules should apply to all threads made on Atrl if we're being reasonable. and please don't condescend me when you know that the vast majority of Atrl users have never read the rules and guidelines from start to finish because if they did we wouldn't have that endless warning / report list every quarter.
the fact that I had to question the reasoning behind that threads closure in HQ is proof enough that no it wasn't obvious why it was closed and most of the time people might be oblivious to why their threads are closed and since the number of threads that warrant being closed every day on atrl is so fickle and small I'm honestly appealed when you tell me it's not "mandatory" as if it was a difficult or tedious task to do, when you can literally sum it up in 1 phrase and post a reply before you close the thread, because I guarantee you'll waste less time than having to explain it in HQ or while replying to a Help request. I have a right to express my opinion and IMO the mods are lazy and unjust, and if my opinion warrants a warning then so be it.

They are also huge news stories and members would probably keep opening up new threads to discuss it if we closed them. They get a ton of media coverage, political coverage, social media coverage..
Yes, those threads aren't nice and people die, but posting CNN articles about mass shootings don't cross the line into gruesome and disturbing. They're legitimate stories with legitimate news coverage.
You seem to be the only one particularly perplexed by this though, seems like most other people aren't that fussed the thread was closed and recognize it was disturbing.
And I don't mean this in a condescending way but you really have no idea how many threads we close per day, it's actually a LOT. Not "fickle and small". Closing a thread is also the laggiest thing you can do on this forum as it goes through a special "thread management" system, majority of the time it takes a couple of minutes to even close. Personally I only write a message in the last post if I think it needs it, majority of the time it's obvious or not needed, it's by no means something we have to do.
As for the last part, we're anything but lazy. Majority of the mods here are extremely hard working, and we donate our free time to keep this site running smoothly so y'all can enjoy it. There really is no need to be abrasive towards our moderating team when i'm taking the time to explain and discuss something with you in here.
