We have gone below zero 10 times in the last 21 years (counting tonight), so it's fairly uncommon.
Tonight is especially frigid though, especially with the wind chills dipping into the -30s.
Atlanta is forecast to dip to 23 tonight- I'd think that's well below average for them too.
