Especially when the said discount was already active for quite some time and, still, the song was barely in the Top 1000.

Yes, you're right. But in my post, I was making it seem like it was exploding right out of the gate after just one performance. In a way, it is. However, the discount definitely contributes and without it, I am pretty sure it wouldn't be this high, tbh.
EDIT: Just saw a post saying the discount was already intact before the performance. Well then, never mind this post!

discounts always help with big jumps Remember Confident?

It's not like people, apart from ATRL, are obessed with such things. Who cares if it is on sale? The digital market is totally dying right now and charts are based on free streaming services. Even the album chart.
Confident was different. Because the song was already high on iTunes and it was all over the radio. People already knew about it. Stone could was already discounted before the performance, but it didn't move a single copy, because it is an unknown song. After the performance, it exploded.
They are doing the same with Shawn. It is probably a label strategy. It's not tacky, it's just a way to give exposure to the song.

I bet it would though. Just like in Canada, where the song is not discounted. People are not buying it because of the discount. The discount is going to help it in the next few days, when more people notice it is on sale.

This.
The only bad thing about discounts is other fanbases which will throw shade at Demi because of this but then they wish their faves discounted their singles to reach higher peaks. So...

!!
People act like, once a song is discounted, someone puts a gun to unwillingly people's heads and forces them to buy. Of course, it's an incentive to buy the song but those are still buyers who, voluntarily, decided to take the opportunity and buy the song they like.

I seriously don't get it why people get upset over discounts. Every single product in the world gets discounted once in a while, it's not a bad thing. It's just a strategy, get over it.

This was discounted even during SNL
Her performance on Ellen seemed to convince people to buy it. Just see the comments on Facebook, Demi's emotions alone during the performance is what's selling this song

The countries where HA is charting are all ones where a copy is quite enough to chart that high.

Well its a tacky strategy. You guys act like its only Demi that gets dragged for discounting ha singles, ANY relevant act whether its Selena, Ariana, Miley, Gaga etc would be dragged for discounting their current singles. Its just something thats usually attributed to new/struggling artists (Nick J, DNCE, Shawn for example). I mean if it works it works, but it definitely adds an asterisk to anything the song achieves imo (only for sites like atrl and chart freaks of course) because if the label believed the song would do just as well at regular price you know damn well they'd charge full price.

The discount could help it from not free-falling just now.
A discount it's not like giving the song for free. People are still checking out for it and buying. So stop it, please.

I don't think you understood what I was even saying. I was saying that the song is doing so well because it's a good song. Not soley because of the discount...

Ofc ofc.
It does, however, show how relatively local this era is compared to the last though.
