I think it's okay. A lot of people like John but some are aware that he was playing a game (or at least seemed to be). Most viewers who saw him instigate the witch hunt against Tiffany earlier in the series will understand what she's talking about.
Edit: Both have stubborn traits, so it's an endless argument. John more than Tiffany though. He thinks he knows himself.
