People have the right to complain about something the Oscars is notorious for. And they are also pulling the "reward straight people for playing LGBT" tenfold this year. Unfortunately, these awards are more about politics (see J.Law's nom), but it would be nice if they would actually recognize excellence in film. I think the most glaring omission is MBJ for Creed. Like Stallone is nominated...

Did anyone y'all ACTUALLY watch Creed? MBJ performance was good but not better than the other nominees at all

As much as I love the Oscars and I watch this award show every year I have to admit that I'm really tired of this ****.

Like why not nominate Idris? When every other award show did nominate him. Also why not a Best Picture nod for Straight Outta Compton and Carol?? Like I feel it's not just about black actors but also the LGBT community as well.

Of course! Idris Elba was/is nominated for a BAFTA/GG and Sag Award and they didn't even nominate him.

Black people need to stop complaining every time they don't get what they want and blaming it on racism. Next time try a little harder and maybe you will get those nom's. Straight outta Compton doesn't even hold a candle to a movie like The Revenant. Black people have been honored by the academy before and they will be again in the future.

The Academy was not going to nominate a Netflix film. Even though it did have that week in theaters, they do not want to give Netflix legitimate film credibility.

I feel like u can't become too consumed with stuff like this though... like Hollywood is not real life, these people live in a bubble that isn't conducive to reality so it's not healthy to get that caught up in it or that upset.

They didn't nominate him because he features in a Netflix movie, the same way they didn't nominate Scarlet Johansson for her voice role in "Her", even though she was nominated and even won in some other movie awards.
