She didn't even lie. Coupled with the facts that these are WOMEN and the industry/media/stanbases think there can only be "the one Queen" is just said.
i dont agree with this. maybe if she actually made good music then i could agree with this but then again i feel like she does r&b music and that doesnt really sell too well especially in this musical climate.
Her new material is not good, that's what's holding her back. She has the talent but not the material right now.
All my friends, player, and party favors are all amazing
She just needs to make herself stand out. She's extremely boring to me, which is a problem for a lot of people when I bring her up in passing conversations with friends
You can't expect to succeed on another radio format or appeal to a different audience when the format and audience your music appeals to doesn't support you. She doesn't smash on urban radio so how could anyone expect her to do so on pop radio. That's where her focus should be and once that happens then try to crossover but these artist now a days want things to happen so fast without putting the work in. The only black artists that I have seen crossover without much urban support is Rihanna and Jason Derulo, EVERYONE else made it big on urban before worrying about crossing over.
There may not be a lot of black women getting success in music, but I looked up the Billboard Top 10s of the year, and it's actually really diverse. As far as the non white people, we had...
Bruno Mars
Rihanna
Kanye
The Weeknd (with 3 different songs)
Pitbull (w/ Neyo)
Fetty Wap (with 2 different songs)
Flo Rida (w/ Sage the Gemini)
Natalie La Rose (w/ Jeremih)
Wiz Khalifa
Jason Derulo
T Wayne
Silentó
Nicki Minaj
OMI
Selena Gomez (w/ ASAP Rocky)
Drake
That's 16 different artists. I didn't include Kendrick Lamar's feature on Bad Blood or Major Lazer because both of those were all or predominantly white female vocalists.
As for the white people with a Top 10 this year...
Nick Jonas
Ed Sheeran
Maroon 5
Fall Out Boy
Ellie Goulding
Taylor Swift
Sam Smith
Walk the Moon
Andy Grammar
Rachel Platten
Justin Bieber
MØ
One Direction
Adele
Ariana Grande
Shawn Mendes
Meghan Trainor
Elle King
That's 18 different people. Not a huge gap IMO. Some of these white artists may have seen bigger or more success overall. But there is still a good representation of POC in the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. It's harder to find lists of the artists who charted in the Hot 100 total, so I just used the Top 10. But really, anyone can sneeze a song and end up in the Hot 100 with streams these days. Lol. Top 10 is definitely more difficult.

Mess @ mike91 thinking the audience doesn't care!! What kind of colorblind racist free world do you live in? How many Taylor swift or Adele fans have songs from beyonce and rihanna that they liked but didn't pay for because they aren't worth it to them. They drop the coins for the white folks they feel more connected to but pirate black folks that they enjoy.
Also Mariah is white passing, blond hair and all.
Funny how there was more diversity in the past than now.
Repo you've lost your damn mind saying nepotism is more important than race....delusional.....Janet didn't just come oh of nowhere. .she too had started out very young like her brothers.
Everyone in here kept saying it. Lol. But I looked up her profile and it only says Italian descent. Most people consider Italians to be part of the "whites". Which, I don't agree with. Lol. Idk. I just don't care about someone's race anyways. I'm only discussing it because it was brought up. I never look at the chart and go "oh awesome! A black girl is #1!" Lol. I don't think race should be a big deal.

You're embarrassing. ...Ariana IS white, her family is of Italian origin. ...even if you thought she was Latina, she would still be a white Latina but she's not, she's a white American with Italian origin just like gaga.
