people overrate aaliyah to the high heavens. at best she would've lasted until maybe the mid 2000's, then be overtaken by rihanna or whoever. she was never going to become some huge superstar imo. I had no idea who she was apart from that Try Again song for the longest time

People give Aaliyah so little credit here. Sure, people love to overrate artists when they die but does not change how influential she was. She was one of, if not the pioneer of alternative R&B.
