I would rather get money. My uni paid part of my bursary in Waterstones gift cards a year and a half ago and i haven't spent it yet because I don't want anything from Waterstones so that was a waste of time and money.

That's why you need to know the person and where they shop for the gift card. Then it's pretty thoughtful.

Like... okay.. i'm kinda mad. For starters, it's the most generic gift ever, it shows no thought at all. Secondly, it's cheap as hell, everyone knows how much they cost. Thirdly, I'm obsessed with toiletries anyway and I always buy myself cute shower and bath stuff, so I don't need any.
