For the US it isn't anymore significant for H100. It's mainly notable due to the sales surge on HDS, which is always nice to see.
There's usually not such a battle like this, bar Swift vs Bruno (twice). But would be interesting to watch Love Yourself. Very rarely for an incoming hit to be this high at this point of the year. I can only recall Thrift Shop and Scream & Shout which were growing when Xmas came around 2012.
I'd love to see LY overtake Hello with gift card redemptions, and post some crazy week sales.
Also, I think this may be the first time Christmas will have the start of the tracking week. It's been split a number of times or mid-week. Friday would need to confirm this.

I have heard the concept of a Christmas #1 floated around more with regards to the UK charts, so that makes sense. I know embarrassingly little about them, though, so I won't say any more.
fridayteenage posted earlier today that the last time we had Christmas Eve as the last day of a tracking week (and thus, Christmas Day as the beginning of a new one) was 2006.
Love Yourself, along with When We Were Young, should continue to gain sharply throughout the Christmas freeze time period, as Timber did two winters ago. Although I wasn't nearly as astute a chart-watcher as I am now, I remember following the IKWYT/LOOH battle very closely. Sorry vs. Hello should be exciting over the next couple of weeks.
With regards to the Christmas gift card effect, I am thinking that Sorry will receive a
slightly bigger boost than Hello (although this prediction isn't very high confidence). There will be a lot of tween/teen Beliebers ready to buy on Friday.
