those previews doesnt sound like music of the sun. TE AMO has that rihanna island flavour. WYT has her using her barbadian accent. but other than that, i dont see music of the sun. this album sounds and looks the opposite of the music of the sun. as someone said, it sounds concept driven. her previous albums didnt sound concept driven. they sounded like singles just put on an album.
i think people are still looking for a GGGB part 2. that is why they may not get into this album. i wouldnt mind a GGGB part 2 because rihanna has age on her side. she could experiment later on in life with different sounds but i think she should have stuck with the formula of GGGB. def jam and rihanna just stubborn. i am all for music diversity. rihanna previous proved musical diversity, which was a good thing because rihanna can be classified as pop, r&b, reggae/dancehall, pop/rock, etc. Te Amo giving that latin caribbean vibe. so she has experimented and is experimenting. but she is 21, she is younger than gaga, beyonce, etc. she has youth on her side. she should have waited and experiment with the hip hop/pop/ watever else later down in life.

I'm basing this on the clips so I'll compare this to a 30 second clip of Shut Up and Drive and Please Don't Stop the Music. Every 30 second clip on Rated R is better than those 2 songs if you only heard 30 seconds of PDSTM and SUAD.
GGGB was a nice album. Epic? No, It had some cute dance tracks but some of you make it out to be the second coming of Thriller. It was'nt.

exactly my point. people were waiting for another GGGB part 2. that is why this album may not fair well with pop listeners. they expected rihanna to continue down the pop road. i too expected her to continue down that road because that is her main audience.

Sadly, the leaked songs are the best songs on the album.

I see.. now i rethink about it, and they are not quite the same at all..
probably because of the gggb hits were too huge, and that overshadows everything..
somehow i still consider 'music of the sun' quite an integral package of work,
almost like a tropical vacation, i dunno, its immaturity was almost cute lol

every rihanna album never sounded like the previous. however, i wish this album was GGGB part 2. i wanted another dont stop the music, etc. but it seems i will not get it.

It does sound nothing like GGGB! That's an evolution in her music, which is a good thing! I didn't like GGGB on my first listen except for BD, Umbrella and Rehab. It takes time to grow on me. I gave it a few more listen and it sounded much3 better. Rated R is very personal for Riri, and she fuels this album with her deepest well of emotions. After the altercation, there would probably be more tears than laughter. It explains the midtempo vibe of most songs! However, let's pray for the success of Rated R. Let's make the risks she took worthy..

Omg yess. When i first listened to GGGB i only liked...lemme think, like Umbrella, SUAD, Lemme Get That, and Breakin Dishes. Then i started to love every song
