One thing I thought about earlier today that could revitalize Pokémon releases (since 2015 has been the first year in quite a while without some sort of main series release) is that with the amount of 3DS family systems out there, it would be really interesting if Nintendo tried it's own sort of surprise release a la Beyoncé. Totally digital to the eshop, the third version of XY which we know like nothing about at the moment. Now, the no promo aspect wouldn't work for a game, but the digital release would be the start of it. Major stores would be shipped banners (perhaps obscured with stickers over them and manufactured in an in-house factory to avoid leaks), physical editions would go into production that same week and be available by the end of the month (best case scenario within 2 weeks of the digital release), developer interviews and commercial campaigns etc, hell Nintendo could probably get the game a spot on Jimmy Fallon if they tried. At this point with XY and ORAS out, Z isn't really a system pusher, so a digital release like this wouldn't really lose too much in sales, and anyone that does want it but doesn't have the connection etc. could pick it up physically later.
