I always thought it was Trump because he's leading in the polls (has been for months) and by a lot but people are still saying others like Cruz and Bush have a chance even though they are like 4th/5th down in the polls . Idgi. And why doesn't Carly Fiorina have a real shot at the nomination?

The assumption with Trump and
Carson is that when it truly comes time for people to vote, they will gravitate to an established candidate. Kinda like getting cold feet before getting married.
Why do you think Cruz has been so nice to Trump...Cruz wants Trump's voting block when Trump sees the writing on the wall that he can't get the nomination. Cruz has been playing the best political game so far...I despise him, vehemently...but true, is true.
The establishment has already decided who they would like to be their nominee, that's Rubio for now. Bush still has a shot because he has money, and in case Rubio flounders.
Christie is hoping both Bush and Rubio implode because the establishment would then have to turn to him...even though they'd hold their noses doing so.
Fiorina's mistake is that she tried to play both establishment, and outsider candidate at the same time. She tired to play moderate, and conservative at the same time. She also never really capitalized on her stellar debate performances...as a lot in both conservative and liberal media said she just disappears after the debates.
Her campaign really hasn't spent any money...they could be holding out for the other 2 outsiders to implode; leaving Fiorina as the only outsider. But I think by that time Cruz will have all that support wrapped up. I just don't she a clear path for her, even though I support her.
