Y'all will STOP with this slandering of The Wind. What kinda malfunctioning ears? The melody in that 20 second piano intro alone is beautiful. Then the lyrics are simple but poignant. It's haunting because it's subdued in its beauty which is rare for a Mariah Carey song. In fact it was kinda the first song where she wasn't in your face with big vocals, coming off her biggest album in terms of vocals. If you say it's emotionless then you ain't getting it. It's about the loss of a loved one, the emptiness of death. The song's theme being the wind. And she pulls it off so well. It's refreshing to hear Mariah on a song without the rigid structure she always has in her Pop and Rnb songs, allowing her to really SANG. To me she pulls off a unique subtlety, a level not even present on songs like Looking In or Petals which I love. You can hear it in her delivery. That's some damn authentic interpreting. Regardless of the little wind sound effects her vocals actually paint the imagery of the wind too. Y'all will deal with Mariah her artful masterpiece. I don't even know how they let her record a song with such sparse production but I'm grateful.
And to conclude the good sis still needs to do more Jazz

Okay the subject matter big deal. This is music. And I honestly don't hear anything but a solemn banshee so....subject matter not conveying. How many times have people come up in this base and sang some The Wind lyrics? ZERO. And what are the lyrics anyways? Who cares, it's The Wind.

Ain't nobody checkin' for The Wind references. Hell! Would anyone even know if a reference was made to that song? Don't nobody know the lyrics.
CB really was in many ways the RETURN of Mariah Carey. It may have only had 1 really month on the chart, but it sold more in the first month than Glitter did to this day. The ratio is 2:1 to this day: 1,170,000 vs. 650,000

I would have sworn that I was watching one of those Behind The Music type of things where they analyze careers, and they said that at the time, Charmbracelet was her fastest selling album. Maybe I'm just crazy and want to believe that.
