They have similarities in the sense that they are the same person that wrote and sang the music sure, but aesthetically and in terms of how commercial sounding they are they couldnt be more different. Tragic rich girl chasing daddies is a theme Lana has vice gripped and will never evolve from so it was present in AKA all the way to current day Honeymoon era.
Im sorry but nah. I think Lana was refreshing in the sense that pop had been solely excessive and gaudy until Adele came in and changed the tides and allowed a more pared down and minimal approach to music to enter the scene. And I think Lana provided an option for people. But I dont think her sound was some sort of groundbreaking era altering event. I mean if you're not just exclusive to only whats on top 40, lana del rey wasnt anything substantially revolutionary. she brought some cinematic instrumentation to the top 40 ill give her that I guess but damn do you guys as a stanbase swear like shes some sort of ****in pioneer. Like I cant.
Well, the same as Monsters do for Gaga or basically any other stanbase. Just deal with it.
The music on BTD was not something mainstream radio played and they haven't touched it since 2012 and radio is almost THE key to success, in the US at least. Very few artists, especially female have managed to get to stardom without the help of radio. Nobody even claims that Lana invented something. I srsly don't know what you are smoking. It's like you pity yourself for liking her. She did however influece people and many artists have actually mentioned that.
Once again, the reason why many loathe Halsey and it's not just this place, is that there is nothing really "real" about her or you think she is just dumb, for the lack of a better word in English.
You're really going to lazily compare Adele to Lana Del Rey? Their approach to music is completely different, and boiling it down to their use of ballads is offensive to both artists. Lana has made ballads before 21 was released. You have yet to provide a SOLID example of someone or something that has preceded Lana's presence in music, while countless publications will cite Lana Del Rey's impact whenever someone like Selena, Taylor Swift, Troye Sivan, Halsey, Melanie Martinez do something that is so blatantly channeling her.
You lazily compare people to Lana Del Rey being a Lana Del Rey stan. Besides, before Adele's 21 hit as hard as it did, pop was solely excessive pop music and rave edm. She came in, turned the tides, and introduced hyper active top 40 obsessed consumers to some pared down torch balladry. Which opened the doors for minimalist pop options such as Lana Del Rey and Lorde to enter the commercial scene, get played on radio, and be embraced by probably most of her stans here. If you're going to obnoxiously reduce everyones influence to lana del rey (who is so incredibly derivative and barely holds much originality let alone dimension to even be plagiarized), then I think its a much more reasonable and logical generalization to attribute lana and everyone elses pared down approaches success to the fact that Adele came in with her minimal melancholy and provided some options for people. Its not something I would have normally have said, but since you so stereotypically must put Lana Del Rey on a golden pedestal as some sort of beacon of creativity and originality, I wouldnt be throwing stones.

Lana doesn't get radio play. Not even alternative play her music. Let alone pop music.
Her music sales and name are literally word of mouth.

United States radio did not play Lana Del Rey sans the edm remix because in order for a new artist to get heavy top 40 play they have to do the rounds and play the game. Which Lana does not. And none of her singles sparked enough of a fire for radio djs to have no other choice but to spin her. But its not like they couldnt have been played on radio, Born To Die is incredibly commercial and obviously incredibly marketable. Had she played the game she wouldve been. But I mean its not like she could perform on national television and promote the album that way obviously we know how well that works for her.
All pop stans are annoying, not denying that. All exaggerate, all praise maybe sometimes undeservedly. I dont pity myself for liking her. I enjoy her music. I appreciate her as a pop artist. But I hold the same amount of disdain for her hype as I did for Gagas circa 2009/2010. Its a bunch of obnoxious dudes that listen to crap music putting them on a pedestal because they're too limited to have ever realized theres more to pop music than just the crap they force themselves to listen to all day everyday. its not that i dont think lana is cool. but her hype and the unacknowledgement of how incredibly delusional and pretentious her fanbase is irks me. And im one of the few people with their eyes and ears open on here to be able to express that and so I do. Just like I did with Gaga back in her heyday, even though I liked her. Its the unacknowledged delusion that I have an issue with. Be real.
And of course the Lana stans have to come running with the warning points. God forbid someone dare point out her flaws.

And that's where his argument disintegrates. And Lana stans aren't the only ones who point out her influences in others, which he loves to cling to so much. There are so many holes in his claims, it's sad to see.

She's uninspired and copies heavily from Lana, Sky and Lorde. Her image is very teen colourful Lana. Her lyricism is abhorrent, I'm over her tragic attempts at being edgy
She's literally so bad, 0 artistic integrity, her voice is bad and she fakes her vibrato by moving her jaw (ew). She's unoriginal too. And she tries to hard to be edgy and cool for the tumblr
Misanthrope, if you strongly believe Lana Del Rey has no influence in any of these things as you claim, make a thread about it and provide proof. People will listen if you convince them well. It has nothing to do about being a delusional stan.

This is so not true. and you have no knowledge of radio works. I'm not going to even bother.
You don't need to play "games" or "do rounds". All they need is payola and label backing with a generic song which Lana is highly opposed to.
New artists break out via payola all the time, Iggy (on the verge radio deal with fancy), Natalia, Hailee etc. Whether they will stick, that's up to the GP to decide.
You constantly contradict yourself saying her sound is marketable and commercial but she ain got no AirPlay. If her sound was that commercial it would have gotten AirPlay. There's no point in arguing further about that.

How can I provide proof that flower crowns and minimal urban beats already existed previous to her breakthrough? And why should I? Do you want me to post photos? Dig through youtube and screenshot the dates of release for songs that featured minimal urban beats? How dense do you have to be to not realize how the vintage indie cliche already existed previous to her breakthrough and yet Taylor Swifts music video is still regarded as some sort of plagiarism of Lanas aesthetic? You want me to get on my knees and lay it all out for you and I shouldnt have to.
To anyone that bothers to pay attention, shes not a revolutionary. And I dont need to dig through the realms of the internet and provide some sort of official thread referenced thesis to back up my opinion for her delusional base. You guys put her on a golden pedestal and you all truly believe she is an american original; a haunting poetess pioneer. Thats that. And as you grow older, as you discover other music if you ever even do, maybe that will change. But I dont give a **** how arrogant or pretentious I sound, my music taste is far too broad to ever think of Lana Del Rey as more than a cool pop tart.

Uh yes, they have to campaign for radio esp if they're a new artist. For example, at the same time that Lana was breaking out (and as I already stated myself she has no interest in playing that game), Marina was doing the rounds. Visiting radio stations. Campaigning. Trying to get her **** played on stations. Primadonna was a Luke produced track and thus got some backing. Lana didnt have a producer like that at her side. But nevertheless, had she done rounds on top of the success she was already building online. Had backing. Visited stations and forced her way on radio like everyone else does she could have gotten on radio easy and like I said, Born To Die is commercial and marketable enough for her to have been played on radio with songs like Video Games, Radio, Summertime Sadness, etc etc et damn cetera. I literally said lana does not play the game. and its not like she couldve done tv spots, especially after snl. Did not contradict myself in the slightest.
