The debate in this thread was actually really interesting.

Some anime characters (including the guy from Death Note) for sure look Asian. There's no way around that. However, some anime characters, even in the same series, look white!! In the case where an anime is based in a fictional location, I understand how casting would be a struggle.

For example, if they were casting tales of Vesperia I could see them going with an Asian actor to play Yuri (left) and a Nordic actor to play Flynn (right). I could also see white actors playing both, or Asian actors playing both. It's really just a toss-up, and is open to interpretation. Sadly, open to interpretation also means open to discrimination which especially isn't fair because anime is an Asian created at form.

That mean their is nothing wrong with the character being white
deathnote takes place in a modern earth, everyone is Japanese only misa is blonde and that because she is an actress and popstar. So the movie should be Japanese actors in this case however all Asian cast would likely flop nice their are no b list or higher actors of Asian decent so

You tried and failed.

First, the Simpsons are perceived as white even without Asian characters because white is seen as the default. Second, there are white characters in a lot of anime and they're drawn differently from Japanese characters. Finally, Japan is a real place and plenty of anime makes it clear that they're in Japan.
