It's her era I least enjoyed. Everything was just a hot mess. ARTPOP is an okay album, which is bad for Gaga's standards. C2C era >>> ARTPOP era, but it's pretty understandable considering the mess happening behind the scenes. It seems she's in a better place now. I think Gaga grew a lot lately, and ARTPOP taught her a lot. I've never been more proud of her.
I'm copying and pasting bang Up's post from the Gaga base thread because I think some of you need to read it:
"There is nothing wrong the 'Applause' lyric video. Just 'cause some of ya'll are self-hating homosexuals doesn't mean that the very fun, light-hearted, and silly 'Applause' lyric video was bad.
She never disappeared when she "had to promote". During ARTPOP she promoted her album everywhere she could, but she can only do so much and can only book spots that will let her perform.
The only reason she performed 'Dope' was specifically to say "**** you" to Troy. The YouTube Awards performance happened during the time they began to fall apart. I rather my fave hold her ground and stand up to someone who did her dirty then promote a song so it can chart higher. As for 'Gypsy', that was actually in the running to be a single and that's why she performed it so many times.
None of her artworks were made by fans?
All of her friends are professionals. This idea that she's in her backyard filming with a GoPro camera by herself is deluded at best. She is always surrounded by professional film makers and producers when she's putting her videos together. Just because they're not the ones you want doesn't mean they're not professionals.
ARTPOP's last-minute changes had absolutely nothing to do with her. Troy and her label were the ones who changed things last minute. She did her best to adapt.
When you spend a month putting together performances for one song and then are told that song isn't the single anymore, your performances are going to be last-minute and messy. That's just how that works.
This whole "Gaga is always wrong" ******** got old two years ago. "Cheek To Cheek" proved that Gaga does what needs to be done when she has a team behind her that believes in her. And contrary to popular belief, Gaga is a very, very compromising person and often listens to her record label. The higher ups are the ones who need to change and adapt, not Gaga. They're the ones who continue to want to do things the same way despite said things not working.
If you're expecting Lady ****ing Gaga to wake up tomorrow and be like, "I'm gonna change everything about who I am so I can chart higher," it's not Gaga who needs a reality check. "
OT: I'm glad ARTPOP happened because the music was flawless and the era made me love Gaga again
-it burst her/her stanbase's ego bubble
-her meltdowns were entertaining
-the Katy vs Gaga mess was hilarious to watch
-it gave me Venus/Sexxx/DWUW/Gypsy/Applause
Well, I'm not glad by how it was managed. Everything, from the concept to the release strategies, was such a mess
Every time I listen to or think about Do What U Want, for example, I remember that it could have been one of her greatest hits
There were some hits waiting to happen, but her ego got in the way
Voted for "Yes, cause it humbled her and taught her that she will only slay if she makes good music".
I'm also glad it happened because it slightly shut down the monsters. The fanbase were getting just a bit out of control, and they needed something to deflate their ego.
No, I wish it never happened. I feel bad for what she went through and I'd rather her ego was through the roof than her being in so much pain.
But also, this era has shown me a different side to her. I fell out of love with her and while I'm still a fan and excited about her projects I just don't feel about her like I used to.
