From what I see it's easy enough to get. As its the same world, like Murder House, people who die in a place haunt it if they have unfinished business or are buried in the grounds.
The hotel was built by a mad man who killed multiple people in it and so its become haunted and attracts dark spirits. A lot of the people who die there add on to the evil.
The Countess is a person who has the virus (basically a vamp) and had a slew of lovers. Amongst them are Donovan who she broke up with last episode but because she saved him she had his mothers loyalty. Plus this new model guy. She also used to be rich but is now poor so she's aiming to marry and be the widow of the guy who owns the hotel and take his money.
Among her ex lovers is Ramona .. and you basically saw that storyline play out tonight.
No one has killed Gaga because .. well they have no reason to. Plus she's got a hypnotic stare so that probably helps.
She also has these horde of kids who she infected with the virus and drinks their blood. Probably because it tastes better since she's obviously bougie.
There's also a serial killer on the loose that's going to turn out to be one of the characters we've seen.. who it is we don't know yet. The investigator how is on the case has moved into the hotel because of marital problems stemming from his abducted son. Who is also a part of Gaga's horde of vamp kids.
I think this is actually one of the most straightforward stories Ryan's told in a long while.
