Stunning formatting has been nothing shy with this game. Cycle after cycle contestants step it up with their entries, and we really don't think we've had anyone step it as much as Era. He's the graphic king of ATRL himself, and he's here to share his thoughts and opinions on this season!
The graphic king himself, how you doing, how is life as a graphic designer treating you?
Hey! Well I'm not technically a graphic designer. I'm studying Computer Engineering and it's only my first year so it's pretty hectic for now at least. It's good though.
Now lets get to it, a big chunk of your critiques and what may have led you to going home, is that some felt you were hiding behind your graphics, lets here from you and your thoughts on this.
I do believe I wasn't able to show my full potential yes. When I joined atrl (very few people know that Celebrate actually convinced me to join as we knew each other on another forum) I did not post at all for like 7-8 months because I thought I couldn't fit in at all and the pace was too fast for me. I only got used to it all and branched out late last year whereas Subomie (I really like him btw and honestly thought he deserved to go farther than me) has been around much longer and has found a place for himself already whereas I'm still figuring out mine. Graphics is my strongest asset but I refuse to believe it's my only strength. I don't really like writing but I ranked in the Top 10 of ATRL's biggest songwriting tournament ever (Platinum Hit 7) so I can write well enough. I guess it's just that I can't write about myself as well as others can haha. Also the judges had formed an opinion about me and it's like you need to try VERY hard when that happens to like prove them that there's more to you than just graphics. But they were right and I'm working on my weaknesses so no worries.
Do you feel like maybe if you had stood out more, persona wise, compared to Subomie that you would have gone farther?
I was not at all disappointed with my placement. I'm glad I made the Top 5! I mean I had like 4300 posts back then? While the other 4 had many many times more of that so yeah. Also I'm glad I wasn't #4 coz then I would've been disappointed in myself that I didn't try hard enough for the Top 3. I could have gone further but it's hard finding a good balance between 8 hours college daily, atrl and UKMIX (I was voted the #1 Favourite Poster of 2014 over there and I have many friends there and I love discussing things over there as well so yeah).
What have you taken away from this experience being in top member? Is there anything you learned about yourself?
I have taken away amazing new friends like Superpower and Cupid! I already loved Jake and now I love him even more! It was so great to see people support me on a site where I thought I didn't belong until a few months ago lol. I learned that even though I'm very competitive (as I mentioned in my application) I value friendships more. I had a GREAT time in ANTM!
