I went Top 10 3 times (at least) last season without writing a ballad (or anything depressing, for that matter.) It's entirely possible, and I'd much prefer a well-written "bop" over an uninspired, boring ballad.

There's no bias. Generally contestants seem to be better at submitting ballads and meaningful songs with great lyrics than they do pop bops with great lyrics. But that doesn't mean that if you submit a pop bop with great lyrics you won't be scored high, just as that means you won't be scored high by submitting a ballad type song if it's not strong lyrically.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It seems like when you write an upbeat pop song, they tend to be generic and cliche, and that's why you get a bad score. I didn't mean the judges bias, I meant more of the contestants choices. Like the contestants prefer (this is myself too) to write songs about sadness then happiness, so i get happy when I hear a pop bop in the mix.

I didn't mean to throw shade to the judges at all im sorry if it looked that way

When using the word counter, only include the parts that count.
