I think some of you are making it a lot harder than it needs to be though, with the changing one line per section thing. You don't have to do that and it might not be the best thing to do for a challenge like this anyway if you're going to have to use confusing formatting and notes to get your intentions across.

In a challenge like this, I'm almost certain that simplicity is going to be key.

I like it like this though. People get so full of themselves, and if they get 3 #1's, they won't care about writing songs after it because they know they will be save. Artists in the real world can't rely on their other hits for their future hits to be successful, this game is reliant on improving yourself, and if you have a bad average, it's impossible for you to win, even if you improve and get better

I'm not going to spill all of the details, but for the most part, yes. It makes it fair. Contestants should be judged primarily on their current effort, not their previous ones. However the probability that someone with 5 consecutive #1s will completely flop the next week is very low anyway.

This is all true, except for the bolded.

I hate to use him as an example, but MattyTacos was averaging dead last at Top 12 in Season 6 and he won the tournament (and placed first last round).

Are EDM, radio candy, etc. lyrics typically received well by judges? Can they be emotionally moving and impactful as lyrics without the production?

I wrote an EDM-pop song that I think is kinda We Found Love ish. How would the judges feel about that?

It's either that, which is a bit more simple, or the ballad that's so confusingly repetitive it needs to be color coded.

It's not a problem, it's just hard to answer some questions when we have 5 judges with very different opinions.

As far as I'm concerned, I have no problem with people submitting bop lyrics if they're great lyrics. I can't stress enough that this is a lyric competition, no amount of production/melody/how much of a bop that would ignite pop radio it sounds like in your head will matter if the lyrics are still so-so.

It's generally "easier" to go for a more serious style of lyricism because it's often hard to write the pop bop type songs without them coming off as contrived or making seem extra special, but if you can do it, as I've always said, I don't judge based on genre or style, I judge based on the lyrics.
