Zero gore, zero nudity, zero language. It would 100% be PG13 today. As said, it was made with a PG rating in mind

Conjuring wasn't rated R for "being too scary," it's rated R for " Rated R for sequences of disturbing violence and terror" (which it got form the ending third which featured multiple bloody scenes)

If The Conjuring is Rated R for being too scary then why is The Ring PG-13? It's known as one of the scariest movies and there's barely any humor.

No it was wouldn't. It'd be rated R. No doubt. Especially with this current MPAA.
It says clearly after disturbing images, Terror. You have plenty of people who say it shouldn't be rated that because the violence wasn't even that bad in comparison to similar PG-13 rated films. It was a combination of both the violence and the terror. The film is considered to be one of the most frightening of all-time now.

I just finished Funny Games. It was cool technologically speaking but it was kind of boring.

It's probably because it doesn't have that much violence. It's just a creepy film. The videotape (that kills you) had to be cut multiple times before it got OK'd. And the MPAA is notorious for being picky and choosy.

Rated R for what? Terror? Okay fine, but The Final Girls is a comedy. If you made TCM a comedy instead of a horror, it couldn't get rated R for terror (not that any movie is)
They just throw terror on there to warn people there's horror in it. Name a movie that was Rated R for terror alone with absolutely nothing else questionable about it. And I saw Conjuring, didn't find it remotely scary. The Ring was FAR scarier with more disturbing content and got a PG13

That's our whole point. Blood is why Conjuring got the R-Rating. Not having blood is why TCM would be PG13

I know it's ( The Final Girls) a comedy. I personally just wish the kills and content were hardcore enough to get an R rating. Especially since it's paying homage to the old school slasher films. I don't know about Texas Chainsaw Massacre being a comedy would suddenly make it PG-13 material. It's a pretty sick film and premise.
And this is your opinion, which you are entitled to. You unfortunately aren't apart of the MPAA. Neither am I. So what we think about why they rate movies what they do, doesn't matter. I personally was creeped out by both films, but was left with a lasting impression by The Ring. I don't think it should be rated R though.

Blood is not the only reason TC got the rating.
And there's no way you can say this. There's no TCM without blood. This is just your assumption and opinion, but I'm telling you this current MPAA would give it an R in a heartbeat.

You may have a point with TCM just because the MPAA is so inconsistent and hypocritical. The original Poultergeist is gorier than Final Girls or TCM and it walked away with a PG rating because Speilberg made it. Then you have GBF which got rated R literally because it revolves around gay guys (despite Mean Girls having more edge to it, and that was essentially gay Mean Girls. Right down to the message going over people's heads) Though I'm sure they came up with another BS reason. Then Hatchet is tamer than the Saw movies, but they have to cut entire deaths for an R-Rating
I don't think Ring should be Rated R either. My point was that "terror" is so subjective that you can't rate a movie R for it.
EDIT: Huh? No TCM without blood? The original is almost blood free

Not Hatchet being tamer compared to Saw. I've even had to look away, I didn't that much with Saw.
And you're right that's it's subjective. You see how the MPAA rates films. You just pointed some out.
Edit: If you said that to most people, they wouldn't even realize it. The films have such a reputation and are considered to be among the scariest of films. It was before its time. It changed horror forever.

MESS I meant the series as a whole. NOT the original Saw which is tame. But 3? Where a guy is getting his limbs slowly twisted off? I'd say that was proooobably worse
The people who made the damn remake didn't even realize it. They were talking about how the remake wouldn't be a gorefest like the original and it was way gorier

The kills of Hatchet are just so over the top for me! He's so brutal.
And that guy getting his arms twisted off...
And you are SO right! The remake is so much more GOREY and brutal. Which is why I prefer it to the original actually. It's such a good remake and was actually one of the reasons all these other remakes started up, starting with The Ring. I still think it and The Ring are the best remakes.

Hatchet's are definitely pretty bonkers, and I get some cuts, but the ones they required were kinda overkill if you look them up. They couldn't even show the girl being impaled on a shovel
I'm torn on Orig vs. Remake. I think the remake had MUCH stronger characters (even if I hated the heroine, the other four were all really likeable) and I actually preferred the chase scene, but the original had a stronger atmosphere, is (obvi) more original/innovative, etc.
They're definitely among the better ones, though I'm not sure if they're THE best. If we wanna do Pre-remake craze, Blob, HOHH, and Fly are also pretty great. Post has Dawn (good), Mother's Day (good minus ending), THHE, etc.
Worst remake ever is Psycho

You can't be serious!? Impaled on a shovel! Not you thinking they can't cut that.
The original TCM is definitely creepier with the atmosphere and way it's filmed. I just prefer the actual brutality of the remake. And the fact that Leatherface was so terrifying, in comparison to his flailing and howling mess in the original. .toofunny2:
Oh I'm definitely talking about recent remakes. That's why I brought up the whole remake craze. The remakes you named are even better. Dawn of the Dead and Mother's Daymare both up there with The Ring and TCM

For an R-Rating? That seems a little overkilll when Saw can leave in a guy being sliced in half with a pendulum
Yeah, Leatherface is WAY more intimidating in the remake. I actually really liked the prequel too, I think the victims helped. The two brothers are the best victims of all seven films. 3D was
Ring would probably make my top 5 honestly. That scared the hell out of me.

See, they pick and choose. It also depends on how long the camera lingers on the violence.
Right? I was legit scared of Leatherface in the remake. Great upgrade. That's how he is meant to be in my opinion. I liked the sequel as well. The brothers were developed enough to where you cared for them. Let's not even talk about 3D.
It's in my Top 5 as well. I was OBSESSED with it when it first came out. So well made. Gore Verbinski did such a great job.

True and true
Yeah, he was so intimidating in the remake. And you can't forget to bring up Sheriff Hoyt either
It scared me so much when I first saw it I LITERALLY would not watch TV for weeks
What are some of your fav horrors in general?
