But if they had the exact same resume and everything else, I'd pick Jill over Watermelondrea. But in the same scenario I'd pick Watermelondrea over Kingkingquesha.
There's a study on this, where a professor sent the same e-mail / resume, but changed the name to indicate race and gender, and showed a bias in response rates:

So you know there's bias against people with non-traditional names, you would still be ignorant?

Why though? What does it matter?

Wow.
She clearly has issues she needs to work out within herself.

I genuinely believe she does not care for black people at this point.

Hmm, that is one way to look at it. I was thinking about it differently, that if I were an HR person, my job is to represent the preferences of higher-ups and others in the company. Since there is an observed bias against non-traditional names, I would pick the more traditional name, all else equal. But I agree that irrational bias can lead to suboptimal outcomes.

Mess at y'all acting like this is anything new. This goes on every single day. Most employers wouldn't hire someone called Watermelondrea. Most would find a "reason" for it but low-key they think exactly like Raven. This is a very Katie Hopkins kind of thing. Assuming we're talking about a business where first impressions are paramount, it doesn't matter how good you are at your job, it's the clients that matter. And unfortunately a lot of the public think the exact same way. The employer is going to hire someone that's going to get the best impression from the clients.
A real life example; a man at my work was born Odimabo. He recently legally changed his name to Alex, and soon after switched to a much better job. This isn't anything new. Your name really shouldn't matter, but unfortunately it does.

So you would continue to be ignorant?
So if it was Chung-Lee vs Jane Smith, you would pick Jane just because she has a traditional name?
A good HR person would base it off their resumes and interviews.

"All else equal"! So they have the same resume, and their interview was just as good!
But yeah it is definitely complicated, because if they have the same qualifications, it also implies that Chung-Lee had to overcome more obstacles than Jane Smith and is better at overcoming challenges? That would imply that Chung-Lee is more qualified, which contradicts the premise that they have the same qualifications. :-/

Most people wouldn't name their children "Watermelondrea." But that's besides the point.
If she had more qualifications than Eleanor Mae, she should be considered regardless of what her parents named her. Fact of the matter is, Raven is a hypocrite and she's EXTREMELY DUMB. She hated the fact that someone denied a gay couple a marriage license because it was against their religion, yet she has no problem saying that she wouldn't hire someone with an "Afrocentric" name. She's a prick and a waste of space.

OMG all these years I thought Symone was her last name.
The nerve, nobody chooses the names they're born with so it's unfair to not hire people just because of that.

Obviously.
I agree completely, but everyone's acting shocked like this is something new. It's really not. It goes on every day. Raven is just one of many, unfortunately.
